"The compiler and linker are capable of using features and performing optimizations that do not work on older OS versions. -mmacosx-version-min tells the tools what OS versions you need to work with, so the tools can disable optimizations that won't run on those OS versions. If you need to run on older OS versions then you must use this flag.

"The downside to -mmacosx-version-min is that the app's performance may be worse on newer OS versions then it could have been if it did not need to be backwards-compatible. In most cases the differences are small."

i need iTunes on my computer to restore a backup to my new iPhone, but when i go to download iTunes (which for some reason is not on my computer anymore) it says "this update requires macOS 10.13.99 or earlier." i just updated my computer to macOS 11.2.3. it makes absolutely no sense to me why it's telling me i need an older version of macOS to download the newest version of iTunes (12.8).

I have Dropbox on my M1 MacMini, M1 Macbook Air, old 2015 MacBook Air (all three on Monterey 12.6.3) as well as my iPad Pro and iPhone 13. On the computers, my DropBox folder is in users/myname/Dropbox. All files are on the two M1 devices are saved offline (one reason I went with Dropbox, access to my files when I have no internet) and there is a folder that is shared with my spouse on his Dropbox account. I have nothing saved offline on my iPad or phone, but some specific folders are saved offline due to hard drive space. I travel frequently and don't always have WiFi, thus it's critical my files are accessible to me all the time (I am a writer). I am terrified of this update and wonder what happens if I just ignore it?

I've been reluctant to update to Dropbox under MacOS 12.5.1. The reason is a bad experience with OneDrive. I far prefer Dropbox to OneDrive, but my employer is a Microsoft ecosystem and I have to use OneDrive for work-related files. After updating OneDrive under 12.5.1, my files no longer sync automatically; they are kept in the cloud and I have to manually click a button to download them to sync. It's like I'm back in 2014 using Unison.

Jay, I think this is the core of the comms problem Dropbox has around this update. If this is true, then there is simply no reason to "upgrade" to the new version of the app, which provides an inferior experience.

If Apple will at some point forcibly EOL the old version of Dropbox, Dropbox needs to communicate that (along with the expected timeline) to customers. If this change isn't actually required by Apple, but is being pushed by Dropbox for some other reason, then Dropbox needs to own up and clearly communicate that to customers. As it stands, the message you're sending to long-time customers is "Upgrade to this limited version of our software for no reason. There's no consequence for not doing so except constant vigilance against our suggestions to upgrade."

As your response to my concerns was basically to suggest that the issue is with the Mac OS and was out of Dropbox's hands, I took the time to look at alternatives, and found that none of your competitors seem to be having the same problem and that there are quite a few alternative options. I spent the time since my last message testing out three of them, and found one in particular that I like a lot. It's less expensive, gives me a much more granular level of control over what files and folders are stored where, and lets me put them wherever I want - and not in some specific location that they decide on. They also offer a deal with a one-off lifetime payment for a positively huge amount of storage (10TB) which I will probably take. So I guess I should thank you for giving me the reason to look at better solutions.

MacTeX is, as the other answer says, basically TeX Live with a few extras. The extras are things like TeX Shop, a Mac-only TeX editor. The reason TeX Live is so big is that there are a lot of LaTeX packages, and most have documentation in PDF format. It's actually this documentation that takes up a lot of the space. You can install only part of TeX Live, but the standard settings are to install everything. That's because everyone's requirements are different, and it would be very confusing if beginners were told 'load package xxx' and found that it was not installed, but was in TeX Live.

For one reason or another, you might have set your laptop to display custom time. Unfortunately, such a change might interfere with the MacBook update. To resolve this, try to set your time and date to be determined automatically:

The single most common reason your Mac won't update is lack of space. For instance, if you're upgrading from macOS Monterey to macOS Ventura, this update requires 25 GB, but if you're upgrading from a much earlier release, you'll need even more available storage to ensure that the software update is successful.

Certain Trojans and spyware run high-impact processes without your knowledge, which could explain why your Mac is getting hot for no apparent reason. If you suspect malware has commandeered your machine, take steps to remove any viruses from your Mac and neutralize ransomware immediately. Then, install robust security software to keep your MacBook safe and your data secure.

R.APP is installed the same way as the R framework, namely usingbinary package provided on CRAN. The bin/macosx directory of aCRAN site contains a standard Apple installer package namedR.pkg (optionally containing the version number). Download anddouble-click the package icon.

For some reason it could happen that you have the package you want toinstall (either in binary or source form) on one of your local disks, oreven a directory containing a package source. You can use the last menuto do the task of installing the package. Having a package in adirectory form usually applies to people that are developing packagesthemselves.

In theory this would allow running your application on every single macOS version released, but for practical (and technical) reasons there is a lower limit to this range, known as the deployment target of your application. If the binary is launched on a macOS version below the deployment target macOS or Qt will give an error message and the application will not run.

This is due to the fact that one of the key features of Cartoon Animator is animation creation via mocap solution, which the Mac OS does not support when it comes to many popular mocap devices. In addition, our main product strategy will primarily focus on providing a smooth pipeline for 3D and 2D animation software, like iClone Motion Link for Cartoon Animator. This compounds the issue as our other 3D softwares are also not compatible with Mac OS, for the same reason.
