Sohow do you know how long you should book for the henna you envision for your big day?

The Bridal Mehndi category of my gallery actually includes clickable links to longer descriptions of the majority of the images. Typically, I will mention how long the design shown took to do. So, you can go through the images and see what best matches up with your vision, and can pretty easily figure out what sort of time and therefore price range you are looking at.

5 Minutes Each:

Standard guest henna at weddings is typically 5 minutes per guest (12 per hour). This allows for each person to get an authentic and traditional, but relatively simple, design on one hand. This is the norm at 80% of the weddings we do.

If you do bridal and guest henna in the same day, and you have a lot of guests and/or want some fairly intricate henna for yourself, you can take advantage of our all day flat rate! Often brides will do their henna in the late morning or early afternoon before most guests arrive, have close family and bridal party members get a little something in the downtime between bridal henna and mehndi party, and then open henna up to everyone at the mehndi party.

Well, yes, it is said that Mehndi is a symbol of fertility and hence is used in wedding ceremonies. However, there is another significant reason as to why Mehndi has been used in our Indian weddings since centuries!

Mehndi is a medicinal herb, and is great in destressing a person. While wedding is a happy occasion for the families involved, it can get a little hectic. Mehndi application helps in calming the nerves and also, prevents headaches and fever.

But as mentioned earlier, the dark colour also represents the love your new family would have for you. We obviously don't the truth of this matter, and this is just an age old belief, and hence the struggle to get really deep colour! However, lets not make them jump hoops for us, instead lets try to get deep dark clour of henna naturally. There are simple ways to make your mehndi colour deeper and darker.

It is believed that the smoke from heated cloves helps darken mehendi. Place some cloves in an iron pan and turn on the heat. Let the smoke coming from the cloves come in contact with your mehendi. Hold your hands out for as long as you can bear the heat and stop only when they start to hurt a bit.

Keep all waxing, pedicure and manicure appointments before the mehendi. If you must do it later, allow at least 2-3 days to go by. Else you will end up scraping the top layer of the mehendi away and not get the desired result. Or else, if you really need to get rid of your body hair, you can shave your hair using Gillette Venus razors that are specially designed for women! But this is in a case of extreme necessity.

You need to keep it at least till it dries; however, this will give you a light orange shade of mehendi. For darker colour, you need to keep it at least for 8 hours and if possible, even overnight, so that the colour is absorbed and you get a deep brown colour.

Yes, it does! You need to apply this concoction when the henna paste is completely dry. Once you apply this sticky solution on the mehndi, the sugar will help in sticking of lemon juice, which in turn will darken the colour. You can do this, only when the henna paste is there on the hands!

Initially, after application, the mehendi color appears light. But it darkens as you leave it on for a longer time. It is because of the pigment called lawsone. It bonds with the skin cells, collageni A natural protein produced in the connective tissues, providing a structural framework for the skin and making it elastic. , and keratini A protein in the human body that keeps nails and hair healthy and shiny, supports the outer layer of the skin, and heals skin wounds. (in nails and hair) to give a dark brown-black color (2).

Black henna combines regular henna and PPD or para-phenylenediamine, a type of coal-tar dye. It is often mixed with henna for temporary black body art tattoos and skin painting. PPD is a contact allergen, and hence, it is advised to avoid using black henna (4), (5). Some readymade store-bought henna packs may contain ingredients like indigo and lime to darken the mehendi shade and make it last longer. You may try the following ways to darken mehendi so it lasts longer.

However, ammonia and sodium methylparabeni A chemical compound used as a preservative in foods and sometimes also used in medicinal drugs and cosmetic products. may damage the skin. It is best to stick to natural options and avoid these chemicals.

Keep the mehendi for at least 2-6 hours. The longer you leave the henna on your skin, the stronger the color gets. Some women leave it overnight to obtain a dark shade of mehendi. However, be careful not to keep the mehndi for too long as it might turn black.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that Vaseline might strengthen the color of mehendi. It traps the moisture and is water-resistant. As a result, it keeps the henna intact, allowing the color to seep into the skin. This may make the color last longer.

Women traditionally use coconut oil to darken their mehendi design. It coats the application area and prevents moisture exposure, keeping the mehendi intact as it oxidizes. This helps intensify the color and make it last longer.

If you were stuck on a desert island and had to pick only one makeup product to take with you, what would it be? For most women, anything brow-related definitely tops the list. In fact, many can easily forego concealers, mascaras, and bronzers, as long as their brows are shaped and shaded to perfection.

Initially, the stain on your skin will last for about one to two weeks, while your actual henna brows will stay for up to six weeks depending on the intensity of the dye used, your aftercare habits, and your skin type. Those with dryer complexion tend to keep their henna eyebrows on longer than those with oily skin. Because the skin naturally releases oils and renews cells daily, henna pigments on those with hyperactive and oily skin will fade faster. If you have skin conditions like eczema, dermatitis, or psoriasis, expect your henna eyebrows to fade more quickly, as well.

That said, you must remember that henna dye is semi-permanent, so its colour will naturally fade with frequent face washes, exposure to makeup removers, and the natural shedding of the skin. Not to worry though, with how easy and hassle-free the procedure is, you can easily come back for touch-ups! With that, we proceed with one of the most commonly asked questions.
