When I click on the label eg "Disc 1" of a multi-disc set and select play, I am seeing the mysterious message "no item was found in the direct sub-folders of the selected folder(s)", for example when playing "The Complete Columbia Recordings 1955-1961" by Miles Davis. The set is organised into separate folders, one for each disc, and I use MinimServer to serve them. Everything looks OK, and I can see the tracks organised by disc, but I can't selected and play a single disc on its own.

I checked another set where all the tracks for all the discs live in a single folder and I get the same message.

I am pretty sure this feature used to work but I don't know if the issue is with MinimServer or BubbleUPnP.

I run BubbleUPnP on a couple of different Android devices and the behaviour is the same. I am streaming to a Wiim Pro Plus, though I doubt that matters.

I believe it's always been this way. If I remember correctly, the additional browsing step (Album -> Disc 1 -> [Disc 1 : Album] -> Tracks) is there to prevent the tracks being duplicated when the album is enqueued from the top level, unlike tracks that belong to works/groups which do need to be included.

To play the tracks from a single disc, you need to select the disc first and start playback from one of the subsequent levels. Do not attempt to play the disc from the album level before making the selection as it causes the tracks to disappear.

OK, got it. That message is pretty horrendous though, because it doesn't explain what's going on in human terms. Not sure what the point is of allowing "Play" to be requested at that level if it's not going to work.

Thanks for the explanation.

From a cursory look it appears that MinimServer never places playable items (object.item.audioItem.musicTrack) in the root of object.container - though I'd want the author to confirm that - so I think it might be possible to hide the Play option in this scenario, though it would likely be MinimServer specific.

Hi,

Thank you for the report.

I replicated that MinimServer multi-disc setup with a test multi-disc album.
I suppose you used the "Play" entry in the 3-dot menu of a ">> Disc <n>" folder inside the root of a multi-disc album.
That indeed does not work, resulting in that "no item was found in the direct sub-folders of the selected folder(s)"
which means that the media server did not return any playable item when recursively browsing folder  ">> Disc <n>"
That's a MinimServer specific behavior documented:

"Note: You can't play a disc directly from the multidisc album contents page. If you try to do this, the disc will appear to be empty and no tracks will be played. Instead, you need to select '>> Disc <n>' from the multidisc album contents page and select the disc for playing from the page that is displayed."

Since none of the recursive browsing actions work on  folder ">> Disc <n>"when initiated from its parent folder (the multi-disc album folder),
I will make a change in next app update to not display a 3-dot menu for these  ">> Disc <n>" folders.

Thanks Michael, I think that will help lessen the confusion a great deal.
