I am considering replacing my ageing Android tablet with a Chromebook, since that seems to give better performance and value, and Chromebooks are supposed to support Android apps via Google Play. My most important Android app is BubbleUPnP, mainly as a UPnP control point, with access to Qobuz as a proxy server. I have seen criticisms in the past of the Google implementation of Android apps, specifically with respect to networking and IP addresses. Does anybody have experience of present day chrome/android/bubble, and is it possible to list areas of BubbleUPnP functionality which are deficient in this environment?

All comments welcome.
Marmite.

I have not tested BubbleUPnP on Chromebook for a while (I have a very old Chromebook probably not up to date), but I do not think  the networking limitations of its Android subsystem have changed.
Namely the inability from the outside world (renderers for BubbleUPnP) to connect to BubbleUPnP's http server for streaming the media it manages (local
and cloud). That's because Android on Chrome OS does not have its own ip address on the local network, thus no machine from the local network can connect to it.
Android on Windows 11 has the same issue. This sucks.
This cripple the app immensely and make it unusable for most cases.
Though I should get a cheap Chromecast device to check the current status and if some work-around (that will not fix everything) are possible.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like Chromebook is a no-no for me, then. Maybe this helps?

Interesting, although I cannot tell for sure if it will help.
I really need to get a modern Chromebook for making some tests.

Might I suggest the Lenovo Chromebook Duet.  I have the original 128 GB version with the MediaTek P60T processor, and it's unquestionably the biggest bargain in this space. Not the fastest thing, but plenty sufficient with full HD screen, 4 GB RAM, OS updates well into the future, and an amazingly low price. (got mine for only $279)  There are newer, more powerful versions of the Duet, but the original still represents the best value, IMHO.

Sorry, I do not understand what you want to do. Can you re-explain it ?

Hi,
let me follow up on that. On my Chromebook I can not choose any of my installed players apart from Chrome. Chrome can olny play few formats directly, everything ist getting downloaded. But I do have installed VLC, MX Player, ... but they are not shown in BubbleUpnp.
If I open a video file from my filesystem all video player options are available.
Would be glad for any suggestions.
Cheers,
Helge
