Hi, the upload internet speed at my house is 6 Mb/s. This is too slow for an HD video file streaming (which is all of my files). So transcoding is required and I assume most users are in a similar boat as me unless they have fiber or pay a lot for upload speed.

1. Is transcoding truly only limited to a Chromecast device? If I go to my friends and they have a Samsung TV, is it impossible to use the "force transcode" button for that device?

2. If we are not limited to a Chromecast device for this transcoding feature, can the word "Chromecast" be removed from all documentation/titles/settings because it limits what people think they can do. Essentially every TV sold today supports DLNA so the Chromecast device is not popular like it was many many years ago.

3. Since it is known by the server if it is accessed over HTTP vs LAN then cant we have a setting for max bitrate over HTTP? Then that would force transcoding if needed based on file/network. (I think this is how audio is handled already actually)

Thank you,
Kevin

Hi,

Video Transcoding is only supported for Chromecast devices (Google Chromecast or other manufacturer devices with Chromecast embedded).
