I have a upnp server (minidlna server software under linux) set up on a small server which is connected by ethernet to my LAN.

When I use the  bubbleupnp android client on a wirelessly connected machine (chromebook) I get mp3 bitrates well below those which I get when I use files sourced locally on the chromebook. This holds whether I play the audio locally or on a wireless sonos speaker.

The server doesn't have too bad latency (pings of 10ms from the client machine and rock steady) so I'm wondering whether there is a setting in the client somewhere to bump up the mp3 bitrate and get better quality audio or would installing the bubbleupnp server software help?

Hi,

BubbleUPnP displays the bitrate the server (miniDLNA) indicates as part of the metadata it sends for a track.
If you see a low bitrate for a mp3, you can bet the mp3 is variable bitrate (VBR) and the media server is sending the bitrate of the first frame.
So nothing to worry about.
