Upmpdcli's UPnP/AV service has no volume control when used with Bubble UPnP Server

Currently using upmpdcli v 1.5.8 to provide UPnP rendering capabilities for a PI running Moode Audio, controlled by Kazoo and Lumin. Since I listen to radio streams and subscribe to Tidal I have enabled both the OpenHome and UPnP/AV services on upmpdcli, with the latter providing access to Tidal via an OpenHome wrapper applied by Bubble UPnP Server (i.e. converted to OpenHome with Tidal bolted on).

Aspects of this setup work well. However, if I listen to content on Tidal with the UPnP/AV (OpenHome) renderer selected, Kazoo and Lumin provide no volume control. Indeed, it seems that volume control via these apps is only possible when upmpdcli’s OpenHome renderer is selected.

I have reported this issue to Jean-Francois Dockes who comments that he sees nothing abnormal in upmpdcli.  He suggests this potentially could be due to Bubble UPnP Server - if so can anything be done.  Many thanks in advance R

Hi,

I checked that scenario and can control volume in Kazoo of an OpenHome renderer of upmpdcli wrapped by BubbleUPnP Server.

I suppose you are running BubbleUPnP Server on the rPI ?
Whatever the machine you are running it on, verify that there is not a firewall on it or something else blocking incoming connections from the LAN on any local
TCP port. BubbleUPnP Server use a random port to which the renderer (umpdcli) connects to notify state changes (including volume).

Thanks for getting back to me.  I'm actually running  BubbleUPnP Server on a Synology NAS  (DSM 6.2.3-25426).  To be completely honest my knowledge of firewalls and so on is a bit limited, but I don't think the configuration of the NAS, or indeed my router, is restricting or preventing any internal connections,   I also run MinimServer from the NAS and there's absolutely no problems with that.

Incidentally, I've just fired up OpenHome Player and used BUbble UPnP on that -  I can control the volume of that from Kazoo and it can access Tidal, yet I still can't do likewise if upmpdcli  is the renderer.  There is a sort of workaround to this inability which entails setting up upmpdcli to act as both an OpenHome and UPnP/AV renderer simultaneously and switching to its OpenHome service when I want to change the volume level , then switching back again to its  UPnP/AV service to continue with Tidal, but that isn't great.  It would be good to know if you have further thoughts about this - thanks.  R
