Tidal login filed

Hello.

For several years I have been using the Bubble UPNP installed on the Sinology NAS  to create an Open Home renderer and manage it with Kazoo or Lumin.

After last update to version 0.9-update40 login to Tidal stopped working, login error.  

At the same time, login through a browser or without using openhome works.

What could be the problem?

Hi,

The situation with TIDAL login is complicated.

Long story short: there's 2 methods for an app to login to TIDAL: the old method (login/password based) and the new method (using OAuth2 via a TIDAL web form).

BubbleUPnP Server only supports using the old method which worked  until now, but TIDAL pulled the plug on

it today it seems. Not entirely a surprise as this was announced but when exactly it would happen was not known.

I'll see how I can switch 'BubbleUPnP Server' to the new method but it is not entirely trivial.

I have another problem that came up about a month ago. When i select a track for playback from the playlist, instead of playing it, it is skipped, and the next one is played, or even several consecutively skipped.

In order to play the desired track, i have to quickly click on it several times.

This would be great, hopefully you'll find a solution to integrate the new login method. The combination of Bubbleupnp server, mpd+upmpdcli and minimserver for a local library, controlled via Linn app works great (and even better with the new Linn iOS app, which allows you to search both Tidal and local library at the same time).

Can you send me (bubblesof...@gmail.com) a log file, playing a track in a way it is skipped:

- launch the app
- go into More > Gear icon > Control
- Enable "logging to file" (at the end of the page).
- IMPORTANT: Exit the app (More > "X" bottom left icon)
- restart the app
- play a track in a way it is skipped
- exit the app
- email me the files found on internal storage:

On Android 10 and below:

/Android/data/com.bubblesoft.android.bubbleupnp/log.txt
/Android/data/com.bubblesoft.android.bubbleupnp/prev_log.txt

On Android 11 and higher:

/Documents/com.bubblesoft.android.bubbleupnp_log.txt
/Documents/prev_com.bubblesoft.android.bubbleupnp_log.txt  (if present)

You can access them with a file manager app and share them to your email app for sending them.

IMPORTANT: Make sure to not restart BubbleUPnP until you have sent or saved the log file as it is overwritten on app startup.

I plan on implementing the new login scheme but it is far from trivial (for making it compatible with Kazoo) and requires changes in BubbleUPnP Server and Android BubbleUPnP.

In the meantime, I will have an update to Android BubbleUPnP very soon that allows to play TIDAL to OpenHome renderers managed by BubbleUPnP Server but just not using OpenHome TIDAL support,

thus requiring to leave Android BubbleUPnP for as long as you play TIDAL tracks.

There's been a lot of progress.

I have implemented the new TIDAL OAuth support for the next update of BubbleUPnP Server, not too far off.

I also implemented client support for it in the upcoming version of Android BubbleUPnP/BubbleDS.

This new support will work with Linn Kazoo as long as you login to TIDAL for the OpenHome renderer with BubbleUPnP/BubbleDS first.

Then it will works pretty much as it did before, with OpenHome TIDAL playback performed by BubbleUPnP Server being entirely autonomous.

In the meantime you can still play TIDAL to these OpenHome renderers using Android BubbleUPnP/BubbleDS. This is not

using OpenHome so requires to leave BubbleUPnP/BubbleDS running in the background as long as you play TIDAL tracks.

And of course Linn Kazoo cannot be used for browsing/adding TIDAL tracks to the Playlist.

I thought I saw an in-app notification about a 41-beta version of BubbleUPNP Server, but the notification dismissed before I could read all the details. Was I seeing things?

OK, after searching a bit more, I found another note in the changelog for the Android app. The latest version of the Android app is ready to work with version 0.9.41 of the server to handle the new Tidal OAuth without needing the app running in the background, but it doesn't appear that the new server version has been released yet.

If there is a 41-beta for the server out there, let us know where to find it, haha.

Thanks, working great also from an Android virtual box, just had to set network mode for guest OS as bridged to see the OH renderer on LAN.

Maybe someone can help me. If I'm only using the iOS Kazoo app, does it mean I wont be able to authenticate with Tidal since I don't have Android BubbleUPnP/BubbleDS ?

Yes, for this I use an old android phone that I don’t usually use anymore. This is needed only once to activate the entire work.
