Most BT clients I've used previously have the feature that they can
recalculate the progress of the downloaded file if it is updated out
of band (e.g. you grab the file from a mirror and overwrite the 0 byte
placeholder file). Some good clients do this automatically because the
download files are watched using something like inotify; other clients
require you to send a command like "rehash" or "refresh". Either way
works for me.
Would it be possible to implement this in btpd?

Well, if you stop the torrent, overwrite the content and start torrent
again, btpd will do rehash of it anyway.
So, basicaly there is no need for rehash command, right?
