Your first meeting with Toastmasters

My first meeting with Toastmasters:

I remember my stay in Chandigarh where my friend Aery Prabhakar had called me and asked to join him in a meeting where he was going to deliver his speech. At that time I was not so interested in meeting but want to listen my friend's speech, so I joined him. This was the first time when I was introduced to the Toastmasters. Aery introduced me to the club president Mr. Deepak Lekhi. He welcomed me to the club like he was knowing me from past many years.

When the meeting started, I thought Aery was one who will be going to deliver the speech but one by one I listened 3 great speeches from the Toastmasters. I felt so enthusiastic and wished that can I speak like them and suddenly Dr. Devendra Table topic master had called me to speak on "the metro in Chandigarh". I was scared and was not able to gather my Ideas but whatever came to my mind I had just spoken out. When I came back to my seat with so many thoughts that if I had spoken this and that then my speech may be the better one. Now when evaluation was going on I was so terrified that I started sweating and asked God that this evaluator do not give my evaluation in public. And suddenly evaluator called my name and started giving my evaluation. "Subhash as a guest you took up the courage and came to the podium and spoken on the topic for 1:33 minutes. You have very well taken the topic and compared the metro of Delhi and imagined very well can be used to connect the tri-cities and then he has given me few points to improve and then asked Toastmasters to applause for me". I felt so revealed and delighted that he haven't pointed my bad points but suggested point to improve.

That day I decided to join a Toastmasters Club but since it was January and in May I had to change the city due to my admissions in MBA course. But I still continue to go to Chandigarh Toastmasters Club as a guest and they started treating me as a member of their club. When I reached Kolkata, my first job was to join a Toastmasters Club. I searched on net and found Kolkata Toastmasters Club and spoken to Sidharth (VP Education) and attended meeting of Kolkata Toastmasters Club where I met Amit Singh who guided me to join Salt Lake Toastmasters Club and Finally I joined Salt Lake Toastmasters Club.
