Subject: [Dry_Farming_Collaborative] Dry Farming Institute Plant sale details!

Greetings,

Are you interested in trying out tomato, melon or squash varieties that have been top performers in OSU-based dry farming trials? The Dry Farming Institute has partnered with Peoria Gardens Nursery to make some available for purchase, $60 per flat of 18 plants. Pre-order now on their website for early May pickup in Portland, Corvallis, Monroe, and Eugene (dryfarming.org/spring-fundraiser). You can mix and match the following varieties:

Azoychka Tomato: Early-maturing, large yellow slicer tomato with a pleasant tart taste. Relatively high yield and low blossom end rot when dry farmed. A top performer in USDA Western SARE funded dry farmed tomato variety trials at OSU: tinyurl.com/dryfarmtomato

Baylor Paste Tomato: Productive red paste tomato with 2-3”, elongated, egg-shaped fruit; very low blossom end-rot and yields well late into the season. A top performer in USDA Western SARE funded dry farmed tomato variety trials at OSU: tinyurl.com/dryfarmtomato

Dirty Girl Tomato: De-hybridized Early Girl selected for appearance, flavor, and no blossom-end rot over 13 growing seasons in Santa Cruz County, CA under dry farmed conditions.

Tiffen Mennonite Tomato: Large, sweet, pink beefsteak-type tomatoes with low blossom end rot when dry farmed; a tastier, higher-yielding replacement to Brandywine. A top performer in USDA Western SARE funded dry farmed tomato variety trials at OSU: tinyurl.com/dryfarmtomato

Stella Blue Winter Squash: Productive 2-4 lb blue kabocha type squash with thick orange flesh that has a dry, flaky texture and is very sweet and nutty; selected under dry farmed conditions by Bill Reynolds along the Eel River in Northern CA.

Christmas Watermelon:  8-12 lb pink watermelon with light green skin; selected under dry farmed conditions in Northern CA; known for its keeping ability.

Eel River Cantaloupe: Sweet creamy melon with thin skin, orange flesh, and teardrop shape; selected under dry farmed conditions in Northern CA.

Dark Star Zucchini: Dark green glossy productive zuke with vigorous roots and exceptional drought tolerance; resistance to powdery mildew; selected under dry farmed conditions in Northern CA.

Best wishes,

Lucas
