Pacific Northwest Drought Early Warning System August Drought & Climate Outlook Webinar

According to the August 8, 2023 U.S. Drought Monitor, over 45% of the Pacific Northwest Drought Early Warning System (DEWS)
is in drought. Drought coverage has increased from 32% since the beginning of summer and short-term outlooks lean dry. This webinar will provide more information on the current regional conditions and outlooks as well as updates from state experts from Washington,
Oregon, and Idaho. Additionally, the webinar will feature a presentation on "Estimating Drought Recovery in the Climate Toolbox."
These webinars provide the region's stakeholders and interested parties with timely information on current and developing
drought conditions, as well as climatic events like El Niño and La Niña. Speakers will also discuss the impacts of these conditions on things such as wildfires, floods, disruption to water supply and ecosystems, as well as impacts to affected industries like agriculture,
tourism, and public health.

Join us for the Workshop for Building Drought Resilience in a Changing Climate with Upper Columbia and Missouri Basin Tribes, which will be held September 26-28,
2023 at Kwataqnuk
Resort & Casino on the Flathead Reservation in Polson, Montana.
Co-hosted by NIDIS and the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, this workshop will bring together tribal resource managers/government leaders/citizens, Tribal
College and University (TCU) faculty/staff/students, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and partners from federal and state agencies, academia, and the private sector to 1) discuss a wide range of issues related to managing drought in a changing climate
on tribal lands and 2) identify solutions for moving forward to address these challenges. The workshop will be interactive in nature, and Indigenous and Western Knowledge perspectives will be shared.
