Garden Planning Starts Now!
Winter’s cold, quiet days offer a chance to slow down and look ahead. While the landscape rests, it’s the perfect season to imagine what’s next, sketching garden plans, choosing plants, and thinking about how our outdoor spaces will grow and change come spring time.

We are lucky to live in a place that hosts so many community environmental learning opportunities, and we have a great talk coming up to share with you! Author Dr. Doug Tallamy will be speaking about how to save nature right in your own yard. You can find more information and the flyer down below. If this talk inspires you to include more native species in your garden plan, now is a great time to order native seedlings, seeds, and even put some plants in the ground!

If you're still in need of native plants, there are many local sources that you can choose from. Here is a nonexhaustive list of local vendors selling native plants.

Ecology Tap Talk

Location: Common Fields in Corvallis

Date: Thursday, February 19th, from 5:30-7:30pm

Want to learn about a Japanese style of fly fishing that uses only a rod, line, and fly to catch fish and how it fits here in the PNW?

Amanda Hoffner, also known as Lady Tenkara Bum on social media, is an international tenkara angler who recently moved from the east coast to the Willamette Valley. She has fished and caught trout with a tenkara rod in 30 states (including Oregon), and plans to continue to inspire and bring together anglers and outdoor enthusiasts to explore the art and traditions of tenkara and fixed line fishing.

During this Tap Talk, Amanda will tie some recognizable tenkara flies and some variations of her own while talking about tenkara and how effective it can be in the PNW. Please feel free to bring your own vise (BYOV) and tie along with her as she will provide some materials and the knowledge.

Common Fields generously donates 10% of proceeds from the night to the Marys River Watershed Council.
