Come see how farmers in Grants Pass and Medford area are stretching limited water resources to grow food.

 

August 7th  |  9 - 11am:  Raptor Creek Farm - Water Resilience Field Tour

Raptor Creek Farm at the Josephine County Food Bank

Raptor Creek Farm's Water Resilience Demo field tour will showcase water management and sustainable practices designed to enhance drought resistance and improve water efficiency. Participants will explore our cultivation of eggplant, winter squash, and watermelon using methods such as paper mulch, biochar, straw mulching, and intercropping with beneficial plants. The tour will highlight irrigation systems, soil moisture monitoring tools, and water conservation strategies in action. Part of the Oregon Water Resilience Field Tour series organized by the Dry Farming Institute. See attached flyer!

 

August 22nd  | 8:30 – 10:30am: SOREC Dry Farm Melon Field Tour

Southern Oregon Research and Extension Center

569 Hanley Rd, Central Point, OR

 

The Southern Oregon Research and Extension Center (SOREC) is showcasing a melon variety trial that includes five top performing dry farm melon varieties, irrigated in 4 different ways: grower standard, as well as a low (30%), medium (50%), and high (70%) soil water deficit, using soil moisture sensors to inform irrigation scheduling. Join this field day to learn how to utilize soil moisture sensors to reduce irrigation usage, and taste the difference between delicious melon varieties grown with different amounts of water. Organized by OSU Small Farms Extension.
