1. Another BSV Fund Raising Idea : Cookies Chefs
This is another exciting Fund Raising idea came out from the Funds Raising Team meeting last weekend.
Cookies Chefs … Yes… we are calling for volunteers as Cookies Chefs to make cookies for the coming Chinese Lunar New Year in late January 2014. Proceeds from the sales of these cookies will go to the BSV Forest Monastery Project.
The sales of these cookies will be promoted in the local Chinese papers, website, friends network, etc. Order will be taken by email. Some ideas of the cookies that have been tossed around included the following:
· “Love Letters” cookies
· Pineapple cookies/tart
· Almond cookies
· Peanut cookies
· “Nien Gao” (or Chinese New Year glutinous rice pudding”)
· etc…
We would also need volunteers to deliver the cookies to Buyers. Further details will be provided.

2. Passing Away of one of the very early members of the BSV
It is with sadness when we came to know the passing away of Leslie Russell Oates, who was one of the very early members of the BSV (1954). (BSV was formally established on 18th April 1953).
Leslie, was 87 when he passed away last Saturday, 16th Nov 2013. Cherished husband of Tsuyako (Sue) (dec.). He is survived by his loved brother and sister-in-law of Laurie and Roma, as well as nieces and nephews.
The date for the funeral service is yet to be announced. For those who wish to pay respect to the late Leslie Russell Oates, please look out for further announcement in the Herald Sun – Tributes section.
We wish the late Leslie Russell Oates to be born in a condition conducive for his continuous practice of the Buddha Dhamma and meditation. May he be well, blissful and peaceful, wherever he may be.
We also wish the surviving family members good heath, happiness and peace.
3. 4 days “Sitting and Walking Meditation Retreat” conducted by Venerable Jag from 29th Nov to 2nd Dec’13 to be held at Millgrove : Almost full now
The booking for the retreat is full and now closed to non-members. There is only one or 2 spots left which are reserved for BSV members only.

4. Buddhist Council of Victoria (BCV) Public Talk:
a) Invitation to a Special General Meeting (SGM) on Saturday, 7th Dec 2013. If you have a couple of hours a week, and are happy to bring the gift of Dharma to the people of Victoria, you are most welcome to attend this SGM, as well as in various administrative functions.
Date : Saturday 7th Dec
Time: 11am for lunch Dana offering, follow by an official meeting at 1:30pm
Venue: Melbourne Thai Buddhist Temple, 489 Elgar Rd, Box Hill.

b) Volunteer with graphic design skill
If you have graphical design skill, and are happy to dana your service to benefit the Buddhist community of Victoria, please contact Gerald Lim on geral...@bcv.org.au , who is a member of the BCV committee. The skills will be applied in the design of fliers and other promotion materials for the BCV.
5. Sunday Teaching Program for the month of Oct’13
The Sunday teaching program scheduled for the month of November’13 is listed below:
a) November 24th: Recorded Video Dhamma talk by Ajahn Brahmali.
6. Monastic away from BSV Centre
Venerable Jaganatha is currently away from the BSV Malvern East centre from 14th Nov and returning on 25th Nov. Ayya Upekkha will be conducting the Monday night guided meditation when Ven Jag is away.
7. Dana (Offering of meals) to the Monastic at the BSV Malvern East centre
The Dana (Offering of meals) roster for the monastic residing at the BSV Malvern East centre is now listed on BSV Calendar which you can view on the BSV website, www.bsv.net.au.
To provide dana to the monk(s) on a particular day, you can either call the BSV office on 03 9571 6409 between 10am to 2pm, or email off...@bsv.net.au. If you email, please provide your name, phone contact number and the date of your choice.
8. Lunch Dana for the Nuns at the BSV Sanghamittarama Centre
