Dear Members and Friends of the BSV (Buddhaloka and Sanghamittarama),

Please see below the updated news and program.

1.      Ajahn Ariyasilo staying at the BSV for a few weeks from this Friday

We are very happy to have Ajahn Ariyasilo coming to stay at the BSV on this Friday and staying until 11th Feb. During this period, Ajahn will be leading the meditation on Monday night as well as giving Dhamma talk on Sunday morning. We are very grateful to Ajahn for his teaching and support at the BSV.

2.      Special Dhamma Teaching on the evening of Wenesday, 15th & Thursday, 16th of Jan 2014 at the BSV – 7 pm to 9 pm, by Sayadaw Ashin Sandima

Over these 2 evenings, Sayadaw Ashin Sandima, who is a very well respected teacher whose retreats are always oversubscribed, will be at the BSV to give a dhamma talk and meditation instruction. The talk will be in Burmese with English translation.

The topic of his talk will be “Buddha’s Practical Way of Challenging Death”.

Everyone is welcome to attend and no booking is required.

3.      A Reminder to book yourself and friends in the Ajahn Brahmali & Mr Steven Batchelor debate  (An event not to be missed – Book Now)

When:  Friday evening, 14 February 2014, 7:00 pm- 9.00 pm

Where: At the Augustine Centre, 2 Minona St, Hawthorn

This is a very rare occasion when we have two esteemed personalities in Melbourne debating and discussing on a specific subject of Buddhism.

The topic for the debate is “The relevance of the Early Buddhist Texts for Modern times”.

This is a truly special and rare opportunity to meet Mr Stephen Batchelor and Venerable Brahmali who will debate the relevance of the early Buddhist texts (i.e. the Pali Canon) for the modern world. How should we relate to this ancient yet esteemed religion? How do we balance tradition with modern interpretation?

Is Buddhism compatible with science and the current zeitgeist? The debate is on!

Logistics

The hall will have chairs in a theatre setting but you can bring your own cushion. Please be seated by 6:50 pm for a 7:00pm start. This venue only holds a limited amount of people so we ask for your cooperation. Please advise us if you can’t make it in order to allow others to take your place.

No cost to attend – Donations welcome

Donations are welcome to cover the cost for hosting the event and the proceeds go towards BSV s Forest Monastery project and the Santi Forest Monastery to support the nuns there.
