The vice chancellor, Prof. Charity Angya addressed the media on the
major highlights at the 14/15th combined convocation ceremony which
started 11th January and will end 18th January, 2015.
A total of 9,340 candidates will be convoking including: 7,832
bachelor's degrees, 1,104 postgraduate diplomas, 346 master's degrees
and 58 PhDs.
Two Benue persons will be conferred with honorary degrees: Justice
James Ogenyi Ogebe (Rtd),CON, and Late Senator Dr. Joshua Atume
Adagba, CON.
A new chancellor will be installed: that is: His Royal Highness, (Dr.)
Lawal Hassan Gummi, Sarkin Mafara Gummi, the Emir of gummi.
The VC listed the landmarks made by the university in the last four
years under her tenureship as follows:
Started/completed an ICT Complex, two large prototype lecture halls, a
generator house and renovation of dilapidated facilities.
BSU also received from the Visitor His Excellency Rt. Hon. Dr Gabriel
Suswam, CON, an ultra modern female hostel in his personal capacity,
and the Law Faculty edifice comparable to none in the country, added
to the many books he has donated.
BSU also received from TETFund funding for several projects which has
changed the physical appearance of the university. Thus the following
projects are on-going:
Faculty of social sciences building, two twin lecture theatres one on
each wing of the campus, main library complex, MBA building and the
centre for entrepreneurship studies.
Other TETFund projects have contracts awarded for work to soon start,
including:
Faculty of environmental sciences, department of vocational/technical
education, students social centre, two units of students hostels, 500
No. students capacity lecture theatre, professional offices and
classrooms, biological science laboratories, physics/chemistry
laboratories and the performing art theatre.
Meanwhile, the BSU convocation play entitled ‘then and Now’ – story on
the changing phases of Nigeria’s development holds Thursday 15th
January, while the next day will witness the convocation lecture
entitled Nigerian policy and governance: challenges and prospects – by
Dr Joseph Golwa the immediate past director general of institute for
peace and conflict resolution.
