'This book brings to life emotions that we all feel but often find hard to express. In essence it is a love story, full of laughter and tears, made all the more compelling because of the honesty with which it is told. There are lessons, should we chose to learn them, about our own responses to social, cultural and racial bigotry. There are significant implications for those practising law, social sciences and psychology. The simplicity with which the story is told belies a very powerful message. A relationship broken, a father makes a conscious decision to endure whatever life has to throw at him to protect the life and happiness of his beautiful daughters. The success of that personal journey affords him strength and peace.

This book tells us that change is necessary across the entire spectrum of our society but reminds us that even in the face of sadness and injustice we have a choice. As individuals we can choose to love unconditionally and to let that choice guide our words and our actions. Then at least whatever change does come can only be for the best.'

Hugh Kelly, Director of Maoin Cheoil na Gaillimhe, music teacher, performer and composer.
