Dear BSNA and GBC Family,
Wishing you and your families a very happy and Blessed Shri Ganesh Chaturthi 2015!
Ganesh (Lord Vinayaka, Ganapati, Gajanan) Chaturthi is celebrated with great devotion all over India and by Hindus worldwide. The festival is observed in the month of Bhadrapada starting on the Shukla Paksha Chaturthi and lasts for 10 to 12 days, ending on Anant Chaturdashi. People bring Murtis/Vigrahas of Lord Ganesha and celebrate the festival by worshiping the Lord in a special way for a day and a half, 3 days, 5 days, 7 days or 11 days depending on the family tradition. On the last day of worship the Vigraha is taken out in a colorful and musical procession to immerse in a large water body.
Blessings of Ganapati (Ganesha) are invoked in the beginning of all the religious ceremonies as He is the remover of obstacles (vighnaharta) to success. According to the Linga Purana Ganesha (Gana Isha = Lord of Ganas) was created by Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati at the request of devas to be a vighnaharta (obstacle-remover) to help them in the battle with rakshasas (demons). There are other legends about the appearance of Lord Ganesha.
Happy and blessed Shri Ganesha Chaturthi!
