A few colleagues and I around Metro Detroit are organizing an Information Security Conference in downtown Detroit June 3rd thru June 4th at the Renaissance Center. The conference is called B-Sides Detroit (bsidesdetroit.eventbrite.com or bsidesdetroit.securitybsides.org) and is part of the overall Security B-Sides conference movement. (www.securitybsides.com) Because B-Sides Detroit is free to participants the cost to run the event is bore by the organizers through sponsorship.
If you are not familiar with the B-Sides Events here is what one participant had to say about their experience at a recent B-Sides event:
"B-Sides, the way I see it, is a place where people come to share, to participate, to learn, and to expand their minds. It is a venue for collaboration, for innovation, for learning about the next big thing, and starting a conversation to enhance it. B-Sides is first and foremost about community, building and enhancing it; about establishing relationships, about building a better world. People come with an open mind, come seeking knowledge, come to talk to others about what they are working on, about problems they are solving, about their passions and projects. Conversations about things they are curious about, meeting the people they talk to online, meeting and talking to thought-leaders and people recognized industry-wide, and all standing as equals, it's an uncanny experience. There is such a high energy for positive change, and if I had one thing to say about my experience here, it is that I want to spread it everywhere. The discussions I've both had and witnessed here, I don't feel like I could have had anywhere else, and certainly not so many, in so short a time. Coming here revitalized both my interest in security, and my desire to do something amazing, not just for my sake, but to advance the community, and the industry as a whole."
But what does it mean to be a sponsor? Here are some benefits:
In terms of attendance for the Detroit edition we are still in the very early stages of establishing a final attendance estimate but our goal is between 200 and 500 attendees, and based on attendance at similar events in the Detroit Metro Area the recent past, and the response and strong support we have been seeing in the community since announcing the conference, we are on track for 200 participants at a minimum.
We expect to draw heavily from both local and regional populations of Information Security and IT professionals ranging from C-level positions in security and technology from large corporations to self-employed security consultants, and everything in between, including software and security engineers and support personnel. We are also anticipating attendance by a substantial number of university students, due to the low cost and strong student presence in the local security community. In addition to the local showing, we expect attendees from all over the nation, given the nature of the B-Sides events, and our early marketing efforts, as well as thought leaders we will have leading discussions/giving talks.
If you would like to get involved and help make this awesome event a reality or
you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to ask.
I just got a response back from Q1 Labs that they won't be able to sponsor. I haven't heard from my lower tier sponsor yet. And the other two letters I sent out I haven't heard anything back. I will send out some follow-ups Monday. How is your stuff going?
I got $2500 from Arbor Networks (hell yes). We might get some match from core as well... anyone else know anyone who might be willing to sponsor? I might be able to snag some from GE as well, I'm working on it.
That's awesome! I was wondering about GE just today. I have a small sponsor that I haven't heard from that I think may come through. Other than that not much going on...
Hahaha, I am wearing a fishnet shirt today, from rsa... and I have one of their cisco flip hd video cameras in my pocket.
Happy to have any of you on exotic liability
