We should put together some sponsorship marketing material to attract investment in our event.  Let's discuss branding ideas and verbiage so we can put something together in the next two weeks and get it out to prospective companies.

basically, I have price sets for using the ren cen, and we're going to proceed with that pricing package for sponsorship. if we move to compuware, then we'll deal with those price differences.

How awful of an idea would it be not to provide food/drink?

They didn't offer food at BSidesCLE and it wasn't a big deal.  They had 10 percent off coupons at the House of Blues as well as maps and locations of other places to eat nearby.  I'm sure we could get a crew together one day and head over to Lafyette Coney Island for a Detroit tradition!  Or we could take the people mover to Greektown and hit one of the many great restaurants there.

I don't think we have to provide food, just a cash bar in the venue would be fine.  The content is free so having to pay for drinks and your own lunch isn't a big deal if you ask me.  Plus feeding 250 people is kind of insane money wise, especially at the RenCen

We should come up with some event costing scenarios so we know how much we need when we approach sponsors.

Yeah, this has been my big hold-up with approaching sponsors, what with the venue selection still being open. Now that we are proceeding as though we are going with the rencen conference center (not the mariott one, but the one we found afterwards) costs only drop from there, and we have firm numbers to work with. I have costing scenarios together, I'll ship them out after work today.

Could have sponsors for the bar and have vouchers good for 1 drink,
the sponsors could put marketing material on the vouchers. Just a
thought

we could also just have the bar sponsored, have up to X paid for by the sponsor, or some such

Hosted bar doesn't look too terrible.  Domestics for 5 bucks and imports for 6.  We would have to go premium bar because I believe @indi303 would enjoy the Makers. (I would too if they didn't have any Jameson) Ten bucks for a glass of Makers is a little on the high side though I'm pretty sure the House of Blues in Cleveland was similar because I had 1 jameson on the rocks and later on a red bull and my bill was 13 bucks.  Looks like the bar tender fee is 100 bucks.

Can’t we just get a grill and do a shady tailgate party? Also… jess suggested the majestic?

majestic really wouldn't be awful, as a venue or a party spot.

Yea... sounded like a bit rougher area.... but wanted to throw it out as Jess has hookups there.

Tailgate party sounds fun!

it is a consideration; she isn't the first person to suggest it by a long shot, and I only gave it a cursory glance before.

The Majestic is a couple of miles (2 and a half) from the RenCen. Not walking distance, well it is walking distance, but at night it would be get your punk arse jumped walking distance. White folk who hang out in the area too late get jumped by the gang bangers. (Buddy on the Detroit swat team is the source for the last comment, although in Detroit they're not called swat).

I love the tailgate idea.

Wondering if you had the sponsorship packages put together yet.  I have a few low level sponsors I would like to ask and would like to see the different levels you put together.

Guys, I'm really bogged down, if I give you guys some of the information I have on the budget and a sample sponsor pitch (with packages) can one of you merge the data? I don't want this waiting on me...

it should be quick, I just have a large number of other things pressing on me, and no time to sit down and think about how to merge all this. maybe during lunch today I'll be able to spare some time to put together everything I have and pass it along.
