Okay so I talked to Kristin at Ren Cen. Tomorrow has changed for her
and they are not going to be open. She is available all next week so
let me know availability you two have and I will contact her. She did
give me some ball park figures with full catering. 250-500 guests
could go from 8k per day to 18k per day full catering. She didn't
talk other options over the phone because it all depends on which of
the many conference rooms we decide on and if we decide on catering or
not.

She said we could talk about this during our visit.

I am available after 3pm on Monday.  Tuesday - Friday will have to be after 4pm.

Mine is a little later, after 6, incorporating drive times. I start a new job on Monday, so I am a little apprehensive about leaving early

Sounds good. Might be a bit late, traffic and whatnot, I've never really tried to get to downtown Detroit around then.

So, I just got the announcement that one of the local security groups that I was planning on advertising is having a January meeting after all. 

Wednesday at 6p.

I would feel bad about rescheduling, but also for missing the meeting and having someone else less informed speak on my behalf... I was hoping to draw a speaker or two out of this crowd, and definitely some marketing, from some of the more connected people who make appearances, like Jon Oberheide and Dug Song.

How do you guys want to proceed? I really want to be there for the walk-through, but I'd also really like to make the ArbSec meeting as it is a great place to fish for attendees and sponsors, as well as speakers. I'm rather torn.

You'll see my message to the group just before this one. Kristen just emailed and said we can't get in to look at the space until Thursday anyways so you don't have to worry about missing Arbsec. Let me know if thursday works out. 

Arbsec looks to be a good one this week too. I wish it wasn't so far and I didn't have childcare issues. ;-)

What are the details for our RenCen walkthrough today?  I am coming from Farmington Hills, so I need to know asap so I can leave on time.

Ok so I have some of the information from talking to the woman at the
Renaissance Conference Center. Base prices are as follows.

Jefferson Room (250 people and up) 1400 per day
Waterfront Room (75-100 ppl) 800 per day
Beaubian Room (50 ppl) 500 day

I am going to make a call to her about food and if it is mandatory or
not. I have better questions for her after last night I think. And a
better idea of the size and scope. Any specific questions you want to
ask? Do we want a walk through at some point of this space as well?

Dividers for Jefferson Room? Networking? Deposit? Money timeline?
Availability of rental furniture, or a vendor recommendation. How much
notice will we have to give for growth? Also, can beer/wine/liquor be
served? And how far apart are the rooms?

Also, just for the record, I really am liking the rencen conference center right now. Very visually appealing, I would like to go in for a visit. But I would like to do it as part of a circuit perhaps, trying to put checking out all three venues, hf con-cen, cobo, and ren cen all in one afternoon/evening.

I think if NextEnergy has the space we should consider checking it out as well.  Their facility looks great.  http://www.nextenergy.org/facilities.aspx

The Cobo information is still incoming.  I have layouts of the meeting facilities but no numbers yet on how many in which rooms. They have the ability to host a conference like this though without question.

A few things about Cobo:

1. They have no projection capabilities so we would have to bring that in.
2. We would have to use their caterer on site for any and all food/bev.
3. They do have a directly attached 2000 space parking garage.
4. They have a people mover station attached so you can get anywhere in the downtown area easily (So does the ren cen though)

I like the idea of looking at a few spaces in one day/afternoon.

I heard back from Cobo.  Here is the Cobo Information.

We could accomodate you June 3-4.  The two larger rooms would be $500-600 each per day.  The two smaller rooms about $150 each per day.  That rental includes the set up of tables, chairs, risers (for a stage) in the large rooms, lecterns and us of the built in sound system in the large rooms.  I've attached our building brochure.  For the large rooms, see M2-29, M2-30.  The smaller rooms 02-35, 02-36.  Let me know if you'd like to come down and take a look at the space.

If we want to look at Cobo/Next Energy/RenCen (not Marriott) and Henry Ford we should set something up. 

For the record I am not sure Cobo has what we really want in a venue.  It is kind of generic and bland although the pricing looks good at the moment.  :) I helped at a League for Innovation conference there last fall and it was nice just nothing special.

Another thought but if we decide to stray away from downtown we should probably check out Microsoft's new tech center in southfield.  I just heard about it over the weekend and it looks nice and technology focused...

What days are good for everyone to check out venues in the coming weeks.  I am open except on Feb 18 because of BSidesCLE.
