Hello group,

We need your input on two questions. Please take a moment between now and next Monday, and fire us off a response.

Question 1: Top three of your fav logos. What logos do you like, and do you feel reflect the ideals of BSides?

Question 2: Top three of your fav words. What adjectives do you think best describe the BSides experience?

Thanks and cheers,

Wolfgang

I think for me the three adjectives would be collaborative, gritty, fun

My logos are the "Made in Detroit" logo, the "DerbyCon" logo and the "See Detroit" logo

http://net-ink.com/images/MID_Sticker_Black.gif

http://www.derbycon.com

http://www.seedetroit.com/pictures/2008RussianDocumentary/See-Detroit-Logo.jpg

The made in detroit logo espouses everything Detroit, gritty, hardworking, etc...

The DerbyCon logo is great because it incorporates elements of the host city (Louisville, KY) along with elements of the information security scene.

And the See Detroit logo I just love because I love the look of the cityscape with something happening within the buildings....

Hope this all helps

What I see of BSIDES Detroit and what I know of u michiGANners...

Passion, Pride, Persistence

You have lions fans (heh)... the car industry... and a boatload of other complexes that have taken an absolute beating... over n over again. but they people who believe are relentless.

To me, that nature is something that the security industry needs to desperately learn. How to have PRIDE even when u are getting kicked on the way down... knowing (not believing) that one day you will get back up... stronger than ever... its just a matter of time.

"Question 1: Top three of your fav logos. What logos do you like, and do you feel reflect the ideals of BSides?"

The i3 Detroit logo for its clean clarity and professional appeal.

The original Blood, Sweat, & Gear logo for the way it captures the Detroit essence.
http://www.jwgoerlich.us/temp/bloodsweatngear_logo_07032009.png

Hak5 for its grittiness and hacker focus.

And I like the c0c0n logo because it marries Hak5's grit with i3 Detroit's clean lines.

"Question 2: Top three of your fav words. What adjectives do you think best describe the BSides experience?"

Bootstrap. Egalitarian. Pragmatic.

Redwings' winged wheel:

the henry ford logo: http://www.hfmgv.org/images/thf_logo.jpg

As for things to describe the city:
Tenacious (the people in the metro area not wanting to give up).

Submissive / broken (the people in the city itself, following colman
young, and kwami),

Disjointed (too many people with plans on what to make the city, but
with no one unified vision).

Fav Logos:

Adeptus mecanics -
 - obviously very geeky but I appreciate the merging of technology and humanity, immortality and mortality. It represents a cult of those so blindly dedicated to their craft that they alter their bodies and minds to pay homage to the ideal of efficiency even at the cost of their humanity. It's beautiful, horrific and noble. Yes, I'm a huge nerd but this piece speaks to me in many ways. I can easily see how IT in general fits this mold of extreme dedication to the craft and we are easily the harbingers merging humanity and technology. As for relating to Detroit it is easily gritty, industrial, efficient, mysterious, horrific to some yet noble and dignified.

Open Hardware:

come on who doesn't love open source stuff? and hardware who are we kidding we love hardware. This logo is incredibly simple and well thought out. An gear with a missing sprocket yet still looks finished and disparate. This speaks to the "open" part of of openHardware obviously but lends to the inclusiveness of the community.

The unfinished pyramid: ( reverse seal of the U.S.)

Controversial, meaning many things to many people. But the basics of solid foundation but always improving and never reaching an apex.

Adj for bsides:

amorphous
inclusivity
heterogenious

Question 1: Top three of your fav logos. What logos do you like, and
do
you feel reflect the ideals of BSides?"*

I like the overall look of blood sweat and gears
http://www.jwgoerlich.us/temp/bloodsweatngear_logo_07032009.png

and made in Detroit
and http://www.seedetroit.com/pictures/2008RussianDocumentary/See-Detroit-Logo.jpg
I think it brings a lot of aspects of detroit and its people together.

I like the grittiness and textrue of Hak 5
http://www.binarybb.info/johnwp/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Hak5-727x346.png

as well as the styles and symbols of adeptus_mecanics
http://images.wikia.com/warhammer40k/images/0/07/Adeptus_mecanics.jpg
I understand that it may be too intense but aspects of the symbol
could be incorporated

Question 2: Top three of your fav words. What adjectives do you think
best describe the BSides experience?"*

I think hard working/tough, cutting edge, capable.

(I'll also throw in that I kinda love detroit locksport's logo, but
mostly because I designed it:
