NR Scouters,

One of our own dear brothers is struggling right now.   I’m sending out this email to our district Scouters because he has touched so many lives throughout the NRV in Scouting there may be many who would like to support him during this difficult time.

If you don’t know Mike Holcomb, he is one of the most caring and supportive Scouters we have.  He is currently serving our District as the Camp Promotions Chairman and is also our local Order of the Arrow Chapter Advisor (Moneton Chapter)for the NRV.  Many of you in Cub Scouts may know him as the person who helps us coordinate the Bowl-a-rama’s every year at the NRV Superbowl.  His leadership of the Moneton Chapter OA is also the main reason we have a beautiful new chapel at Camp Ottari.  As a man of faith and leader at Jordan’s Chapel United Methodist Church, as an Eagle Scout and life-long Scout leader… there are many boys in the NRV and beyond who look up to and are inspired by Mike Holcomb.

Long story short, Mike has recently had serious heart problems.  A little over a week ago, Mike had a heart attack that revealed a need for extensive medical attention to put him back together.  After putting in a stint, it was discovered he had congestive heart failure and would need  double bypass surgery with the possibility of heart pumps to get him back on his feet.  An artificial heart is even being discussed as a last resort option.  For insurance reasons, Mike’s surgery is being held off until the first week of March to help offset some of his expenses.  However, as we all know, medical expenses can be just as destructive and overwhelming as the reasons for seeking care in the first place.  For this reason, we’re looking to do what we can for our friend.

On Feb 28th at 6pm there is a “Have a Heart” fundraiser planned for Mike at Jordan Chapel United Methodist Church in Pulaski.  There will be a dinner and a silent auction.  Those who can come and offer a show of support will be greatly appreciated.   If you plan to attend, please RSVP with Ms. Holly King at hnk...@radford.edu .  or you can RSVP through the Facebook event here: www.facebook.com/jordanschapelumcpulaski

If you are not able to make this event, but would like to help Mike with a donation to offset his medical expenses, you can make a donation through his “gofundme” site here:  http://www.gofundme.com/moy0k0

Or you can send support to:

Susan Holcomb

P.O. Box 1368

Thanks so much for taking time to read this. If you have any questions regarding this event, or want to inquire about other ways to support Mike and his family, please contact Ms. Holly King at 540-577-1461.  Holly is coordinating this event on behalf of Mike and Susan in conjunction with Jordan’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

Blessings,
