drawing images to canvas using brython

Hit, I appreciate that there already threads on the subject of not being able to get images to be drawn to the canvas, but ive read through them all and have yet to get it working. So here's my code, it's just a simple thing at the minute because I have only just started playing around.

I have tried this and variations of the syntax many times. I have also tried using html.IMG(src="charD.png") but that also didn't work. I am debugging in chrome, but have also tried with firefox to no avail. Thanks in advance for any help/replies. I appreciate your time and patience.

update: Using jsfiddle, an image from the internet rather than locally, it works, but still not on my machine, even with the image url from the net. Here's the working jsfiddle:

Are you running a local server for the ajax requests?

I'm not running a local server, no. But according to the brython page, it should work if you include the cdn, which I have. Also, other python code works, like i can write values and expressions etc to the document with document.write, and print to the console. So the only functionality that isn't working atm is loading an image, that and I don't yet know how to add eventlisteners.

You are requesting a file on a server (your image).

Ah, okay, I see. well, I managed to get it to work intermittently:
however, it only works when I get there after coming from the main page. Also, when i reload the browser, the image doesn't appear. I repat, it's only working when i go to: http://csg.eu5.org/ and then retype the url to the one above. But when i reload the page the image doesn't load again. Thanks for your help btw.

I'm at the office and the wonderful proxy doesn't allow me to visit the page.
