Where did summer go? It feels like the last day of school was yesterday but the new school year starts next week!
Work on the sidewalk on 62nd Place between Landover Road and Monroe Street is set to start tomorrow. Once finished, this should create a much safer pedestrian situation for folks walking to school or church from Landover Road. Thanks in advance for your patience with that intersection for the next few weeks as the work is completed!
The August Town Meeting is usually a pretty light agenda and this month was no exception. As a reminder there is no August Work Session.
MEETINGS
August 14 Town Meeting
Agenda can be found here
You can watch recordings of all town meetings here.
Board of Elections Supervisors
Christina Bruff’s nomination to serve as a Board of Elections Supervisor was approved.
Ethics Ordinance
The rewritten Ethics Ordinance had a second of three “readers,” which means that it will have a third reader and will be voted on at the next Town Meeting.
Departmental Reports
Hospital Hill
The developers have submitted the Preliminary Plan of Subdivision to Parks and Planning, which means we will need to submit formal comment on the plans in the next few months. Please keep an eye out for either a special meeting with the developers or an agenda item on our September Town Meeting agenda for them to present the details of the PPS.
Sound the Alarm
The Red Cross is doing a Sound the Alarm event in Ward 2 and the Tuxedo area on September 13 to raise awareness about fire safety and inspect fire alarms. They are looking for volunteers to assist in the canvassing; anyone interested in volunteering can contact harrit...@redcross.org.
Noise Violations
Excessive noise in violation of our code can be reported to the Police Department; for urgent concerns outside of business hours please call 911 to connect with CPD.
See Click Fix
If you’re walking or driving around town and notice things that need fixing, weeding, or paving, please use See Click Fix, which is available as an app or on the town website. It’s a convenient way to report issues like potholes and code violations—and you can track the status of your request in real time. Check it out here.
WSSC Task Order 201
It seems that WSSC is finally agreeing to repair the unsatisfactory work they did replacing sewer lines in Ward 3; we will keep you updated on the timeline for them to come through and redo the filling, compacting, and paving work.
Thank you for staying engaged! Please reach out with any questions, concerns, or feedback.
Best,
Nicole Bryner
