We are preparing to transition to a new customer billing system that will bring new account features, including a new account number and a redesigned bill beginning July 2. As part of this system change, online self-service options will be temporarily unavailable from Thursday, June 27 – Monday, July 1. Please schedule or make payments before Wednesday, June 26. Natural gas and electric emergencies can still be reported by phone. Please note that some action may be required after July 2: If you currently pay your CenterPoint Energy bill directly through a bank or other financial institution’s bill pay service, you will need to update your account number on or after Tuesday, July 2, 2024, for your payment(s) to be applied to your account. If you frequently pay your bill at an authorized payment site like your local grocery store, you will need to have your new account number (or bill stub with your new account number) on or after Tuesday, July 2 to pay your bill. If you are enrolled in AutoPay (automatic payments) through your online CenterPoint account, you do not need to take any additional action. They are changing account numbers.

I think they think that 18 digits are too many.

The current number has 6000 to the left of the Vectren number, which has 5 digits to the left of the original Indiana gas number.
