Man this sucks! I sat there and tried to follow the directions step by step from Disk Genius website but I just couldn't figure it out. Didn't realize how hard it was. Thanks for your help. So there's no way at all that I can find out if windows is still on the disk. I don't think I erased the partition but who knows. How do I get windows back on the PC.

Please help! I installed a new SSD in my son's computer and wanted to transfer only Windows 10 from the HDD to SSD. I downloaded disk Genius and looked through it for awhile. I hit the migrate os tab and then chose the SSD as the target disc but it kept saying that the target disc was to small being that the HDD is 1tb that has the os on it and trying to go to 256gb SSD. So I think I messed up by trying to format the HDD to get just the os to migrate. Anyway I couldn't figure it out so I gave up and backed out. I turned the computer off and back on and now it's saying no boot device found. I can't figure this out so if anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. It's like it doesn't have Windows on it anymore. I'm lost!! Please help

For future reference: it is possible to migrate a larger disk to a smaller disk as long as the larger disk doesn't contain more "stuff" than the smaller disk can fit. Sometimes this will be a two stage process where step 1 is to shrink the partition on the larger drive to make it small enough to migrate, then step 2 is to perform the migration.

Okay, so Bad Sector Verification? Took 10 hours - 3 times. Every time I get 1000 something good sectors and billions of excelent sectors. I tried repairing specific good sectors and that crashes the application. I also tried Tools->chek partition table and Diskgenius says that there's nothing wrong there either. chkdsk and Easeus and Paragon agree that there's nothing bad really, although Paragon took forever to Test Surface and I just canceled when he reached 5% after 26 hours. For some reason win defrag doesn't detect that drive. I'm going to deep defrag with Remo drive defrag right now.

First off: Better don't do what I did. The consensus here is that this was a bad idea and so it probably was. Maybe ask a friend or neighbour if you can borrow his drive for the resuce-action or check on on your local craigslist-pendant for someone selling harddrives and ask him to help you for 5 bucks or even better buy even more redundant data storage and use that. If that's not your way, then this extensive guide buy Zorb750 might be the best bet. _resize_exfat_partition_with_diskgenius_bc/i09qj6u/

I tried Remo deep defrag and after 4 hours it was still at 0% so I canceled and used the less deep defrag which ran to completion in about half an hour. Then I retried resizing and not much changed except the error had been moved to an earlier cluster number. Then I safely disconnected the drive and reattached it and then rerun chkdsk, but this time with every imaginable parameter that is not ntfs-only and low and behold chkdsk actually found and reported an error. And then chkdsk crashed leaving my drive in an unusable state... So I waited 2 hours and then closed the command prompt in which I had run chkdsk and then went to My Computer->Right click on 0kB/0kB empty/full drive->Properties->Tools-> Error Check and luckily that instantly repaired it. And then I retried resizing and because chkdsk found the error, but never reported repairing it I was surprised, that it actually worked. By then I had deleted enough files so I could resize to 40 % and move everything else over with some free buffer to spare, so only one exFat-resizing necessary. After resizing I tried creating a new NTFS-partition on the free area, but Diskgenius didn't want to. Okay, Reddit-people said Diskgenius is bad and it does feel kinda weird, so I closed the application and went on to Paragon which gladly created said partition. Then I used Teracopy to copy all files b/c Teracopy is faster and can run MD5 to check whether everything copied well. Well... almost.

Therefore you are better of using a fault-tolerant software such as ddrescue (Linux, open source, free) to create a copy that is at least physically healthy. That means that every sector can be read. Keep in mind that such a copy won't provide you with the content of pending sectors. But having such a physically healthy disk ready, fair weather software can be used again.ddrescue provides you with information about unreadable sectors and is updating this information during the copy process.

Just wanted to back up my gfs old Mac before wiping onto my trusty 1 TB external HDD (ExFAT). Time machine (the mac backup software) ofc wanted to wipe the entire disk before backup. The mac didn't want to partition presumably due to old age. Went to partition on Windows however can't shrink volume on an ExFAT disk. Now using DiskGenius.

I have an external 2 TB Harddisk that had a 1.5 TB exFAT Partition and a 500GB HFS+ encrypted Partition. I wanted to shrink the 1.5 TB to 1 TB. I used to shrink the exFAT Partition which worked, I ended up with a 1 TB Partition visible in Windows.

It took a lot longer because I expected that disk2s2 was a HFS+ encrypted volume but viewing it in a hex editor I didn't find the markers for that, so I thought my data somehow has been overwritten or that the partitions were not aligned properly anymore. Only after recreating my previous setup I found out that there was a CoreStorage layer in between and then it was an easy fix.

Still not entirely sure what went wrong in the first place, because I tried to recreate my scenario on another harddisk and it worked there. My guess is my old harddisk had an mbr and gpt (hybrid) and thats what confused disk genius, but I don't know for sure.
