Bookmarks bar in Chrome 148 remains visible

I just updated my Windows 11 installed Chrome browser to version 148. With that update, the Bookmarks bar remains visible on the New Tab page, regardless of settings. Can this be reversed to hide it as it was in Chrome 147?

Maybe there's something in chrome://flags, but I didn't find anything to fix it.
