Hi brownie-users,

Does anyone have experience with running brownie on Cygwin (I’m using
Windows XP)?

I downloaded “brownie_cmdline_linux_2_1_2.zip” and placed the
“brownie” file in cygwin/usr/local/bin. When I try to run the program
in Cygwin by typing “brownie” I get the error message “bash: /usr/
local/bin/brownie: cannot execute binary file”

The brownie manual says “download brownie.exe” but I don’t seem to
find this file.

Any ideas?
Best wishes, Frederik

Hi, Frederick. The command line linux version won't run on Windows (though you could recompile from source to run in cygwin). I've stopped making Windows builds for recent versions of Brownie (I found it a lot of work to keep compiling for Windows on a Mac, only to have users need to work through cygwin). What I'd recommend instead is using RBrownie, which is an R front end to typical Brownie but which, though clever programming by Conrad Stack, runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
