貌似是一部比较轻松愉快的话剧,探讨”how we make family in a 21-century world“。

TAPS and Sock & Buskin proudly present Water by the Spoonful, the 2012 Pulitzer Prize winning play by Brown University alumna Quiara Alegría Hudes.
The second play in a trilogy, Spoonful invites us into the life about Elliott Ortiz, a young Puerto Rican marine who served in the second Iraq War, six years after returning home.

Elliott, now 24, is working at a Subway sandwich shop while trying to kick start his acting career; his cousin, Yazmin, a music professor is recently divorced and their aunt Odessa (who is actually Elliot s birth mother) is running a chat room for recovering crack addicts like herself. In this compassionate yet brutally honest play, each of the characters learns to embrace the challenge of living honestly and openly in a world filled with unintended risks and unexpected pleasures. Set in Philadelphia and the virtual world, Spoonful explores how we make family in a 21-century world.

SPECIAL EVENT: The playwright will be in attendance during opening night (Thursday, September 26th) and will stay to answer questions about the play, her process and her career during a talkback immediately following the performance. Those not able to attend the performance are still encouraged to attend the talkback. The event is expected to begin at approximately 10:15pm on the 26th. The talkback event is free of charge and open to the public. Seating is limited.

A better world by Design,周五、周六晚上是social event,所以万一有人想去这些event,照顾一下自己的schedule :)

P.S.: Brown

又有一部好戏看了:A Streetcar Named Desire,1948年普利策戏剧奖得主,讨论永恒的主题love and desire, sex and violence, loss and loneliness。
Lowry Marshall.

同去?

Brown Theatre Arts and Performance Studies
and Sock & Buskin proudly present

A Streetcar Named Desire
by Tennessee Williams
directed by Lowry Marshall

October 31 - November 10, 2013

Stuart Theatre
75 Waterman Street
Providence, RI

Under the direction of Brown professor Lowry Marshall, Williams 1948 Pulitzer prize winning masterpiece is given an even grander New Orleans flair with the help of a large ensemble of performers and their dynamic array of instruments.

Written at the tale end of the American fascination with melodrama, A Streetcar Named Desire follows Blanche DuBois, a Southern belle whose melodramatic sighs and cries for rescue thinly veil her delusions of grandeur and her struggles with alcoholism. Self-effacing and deferential, Blanche s sister Stella lives in fear of her brutish and emotionally abusive husband Stanley. Chaos ensues as passions fly, when Blanche s visit puts her and Stanley on a collision course.

In this inventive new production of Tennessee Williams' tragic masterpiece, the vibrant world of the New Orleans French Quarter becomes a not-so-innocent bystander to Blanche and Stanley's fatal pas de deux.  Arguably the greatest American play of the 20th century, Streetcar grapples with the deepest, most persistent challenges of our never-ending quest for connection:  love and desire, sex and violence, loss and loneliness.  If you've never visited Tennessee Williams' New Orleans, now's the time and if you're ready for a return visit, get on board the Streetcar.

Tickets are $15; $12 for staff, faculty, and seniors and $7 for students. Group discounts and season tickets are available. Contact the box office at 401-863-2838, boxo...@brown.edu, or in person at Leeds Theatre, 77 Waterman Street. Tickets always available online at brown.edu/go/tickets.

Second that. Engrossing plot with an fair amount of drama and humor, strong acting, meticulously setup and all-functioning stage. A fantastic rendition of the classics.
