The Autism Spectrum Assessment Clinic (ASAC),
located in Coral Gables, Florida, provides comprehensive psychological evaluations to children and adults to investigate the possibility of an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The purposes of the evaluation are to determine current level of functioning, clarify diagnosis, and provide treatment recommendations. ASAC includes a team of highly experienced professionals who specialize in diagnosing or ruling out ASDs, including clinical and school psychologists, doctoral level psychology students, behavior analysts, and consulting clinicians from CARD who assist in the assessment process and who ensure that individuals diagnosed with autism and their families are connected to CARD services and supports. State-of-the-art assessment measures, such as the
ADOS and ADI-R are used in ASAC evaluations.

after school & on weekends. These programs are located all over Dade County, some are
free and some offer a sliding scale. Age range is from 3 years old to adult.

Understanding the Laws of Florida Concerning Students with Disabilities
Rosemary Palmer, Esq. will be giving a presentation for
Broward County's Parent Training "Weekend with the Experts" series.
Her presentation will be held on
September 13, 2008, from 9 AM until 3 PM.*
Participants will receive
an overview of what federal and state laws require for all students in Florida,
so that parents will recognize when their own student's services are different,
and know what options they have. A review of what Scientific Research Based
intervention means and what we know about what is effective for students with
disabilities will be provided. Florida laws concerning procedural safeguards
will be
addressed, as well.

UM-NSU CARD serves both children and adults of all levels of intellectual functioning who have autism, pervasive developmental disorders, autistic-like disabilities, dual sensory impairments, or sensory impairments with other disabling conditions. Their primary focus is to provide individualized, direct assistance to these individuals and their families. Services include family support, technical assistance and consultation, parent and professional training programs, and public education activities. The dedicated members of The Society of Bar and Gavel want to help raise funds for a program that provides these free services to those families who are affected by autism and related disabilities.

The group purpose is to provide a well-structured and safe environment where teenagers can discuss issues related to:
Peer pressure/socialization
School related stressors
Effective coping skills
Family issues
Appropriate vs. inappropriate behaviors
Better decision making and problem solving
Other topics will be discussed as suggested by group members
Space is limited to 6 group members
Group will meet every week for 8 sessions
Fee $75 per group; please contact our office for further information and to sign up.
Group will be facilitated by Nichole Eckert, MS.
Nichole Eckert, MS, is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and provides psychological treatment for adolescents/teenagers, college students, and adults. An area of specialty is mother/daughter relationship issues, improving self-esteem/confidence, teaching appropriate and effective coping skills related to academic/college related stressors, as well as peer pressure, eating disorders, drugs/alcohol, and relationships. Ms. Eckert works with individuals and families with underlying issues contributing to Depression, Anxiety (such as Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Post-traumatic stress, Phobias), Bipolar Disorder, Chemical Dependence, Relationship and Familial issues. Ms. Eckert holds a Master's of Science Degree in Mental Health Counseling. Up until 2007, Ms. Eckert also worked on behalf of children and families as a counselor within both residential and outpatient care facilities. Ms. Eckert works in the Aventura office.

Group for Siblings of Kids on the Spectrum
The group purpose is to provide a well-structured and safe environment where kids can discuss issues related to:
Having a sibling with challenges (autism, aspergers, learning disability, etc.)
Peer Pressure/socialization
School related stressors
Family issues
Better decision making and problem solving
Other topics will be discussed as suggested by group members
Space is limited to 6 group members
Children will be grouped according to age
Group will meet every week for 6 sessions
Please speak with our office staff to sign up or if you have any questions.
Group is beginning September 2008. Date and time to be determined.
Fee $65 per group, if paid in advance (6 sessions)/$75 per group otherwise.
Groups will be held in Coral Gables and Aventura
