* I will attend the Option#2/Patagonia of the PostZaf. In my quest to visit ATACAMA - the driest place on Earth, I had been advised to schedule that activity before the high season. That means early October instead of after the 25th of October.
* I like to travel light and frugal. My best experiences have been often when staying in youth hostels, where I can meet adventurous free spirited voyagers who share hints, less known itineraries, best prices and even car rentals!
* I reserved a fun place: Aji Verde Hostel: https://www.booking.com/Share-IXsBJhB
But it can still be changed.
* I enquired by friends who had crossed the region by bike ( muscle only...) and others who went trekking and rested in higher end lodges. It seems that a four and a half days sojourn is a minimum to get a good feeling of the place. As soon as you show some interest in the region, you get inundated with offers from agencies and tour planners.
* The first itinerary I received was from Marcella of "Travellocal", of whom I attach the planning. ( $2300 with possible different hotels) . She offers E-Bikes and Dune Buggies. I don't know if I really want to add noise in this pristine environment...
* I also got a great recap was definitely in French language. I will try to resume it below. I need to contact her to see why she does not mention a small trekking in Puritama.
* I leave NY on October 12 to Santiago. I think I'd stay there for one night to recuperate or I can still jump immediately to the flight to Calama, three hours later... Return scheduled on October 18 to the Zaf in Santiago. This would make a total of five days in the desert.
 * An additional advantage is that this desert offers the best sky gazing opportunities when there is no full moon. New moon is occurring October 10 while full moon is showing October 26.
* Altitude can be of a concern. I am trying to reach the 4200m / 14000ft after 3 nights acclimation. It can also be COOOLD, especially in the evening. Let's pack the correct gear.
To Be Continued.
