Launched during the COVID-19 pandemic, SPH’s Center for Public Health Systems (CPHS) has grown into a national leader in strengthening the public health workforce through research, technical assistance and partnerships with health departments across the country. Now marking its fifth anniversary, the center continues to help improve public health capacity by studying workforce needs and providing evidence to guide public health systems and decision-making.
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is seeking applicants for the Minnesota e-Health Advisory Committee who are interested in actively contributing to the committee’s work and bringing the perspective of their stakeholder community to discussions and decision-making. Established in 2004 under Minnesota Statute, the advisory committee develops recommendations and advises the Commissioner of Health on policies and processes related to health information technology, data use and exchange, and related technologies. The committee brings together perspectives from across Minnesota’s healthcare and public health landscape to achieve the Minnesota e-Health Vision, where all communities and individuals benefit from and are empowered by information and technology that advances health equity and supports health and wellbeing. As the advisory committee continues to advance important work related to health information exchange, artificial intelligence, and health equity, we are looking for engaged members who can help sustain the momentum and contribute to the advisory committee’s efforts. We encourage interested individuals to submit their application materials by June 30 to ensure appointments are made before the first advisory committee meeting in early September. WIC is now accepting nominations for WIC Everyday Heroes. The MN WIC Advisory Group established the WIC Everyday Hero award to recognize the everyday heroes working in WIC at the local level. Nominations are being accepted through Friday, June 12. Each WIC local agency may submit up to two nominations. Each of the eight WIC regions will select one Everyday Hero from their region. The Center for Health Promotion at the Minnesota Department of Health has released a grant Request for Proposals (RFP) to support community-based solutions for healthy food access and diabetes prevention and management. Proposed projects should address food access at a systems or population level versus at an individual level. This RFP seeks project proposals to address barriers to accessing healthy foods or understanding and accessing nutrition information, education, or support services. These grants will run for about two years with a range of $25,000 - $37,500 annually. Applications are due July 1, 2026. Selected organizations must primarily and intentionally serve people who experience food and nutrition insecurity, with an emphasis on reaching populations at higher risk of prediabetes or diabetes and hospitalization/morbidity risk, including at least one of the following populations: • U.S. born and other African American/Black communities • American Indian communities • Asian/Pacific Islander communities • Hispanic/Latino/Latina/Latine communities • People living with disabilities • Greater Minnesota Please share with your networks!
The Request for Proposals (RFP) for 2026 is now open through Friday July 19th at 4:30 p.m. for Private Well Protection Grants. The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) received funding from the Clean Water Fund to protect private well users. A portion of this funding is being offered as grants to promote private well testing among private well users. Each entity will have the opportunity to apply for a set amount of funding to provide and promote well testing for households that rely on private well water for drinking water. Eligible applicants include Community Health Boards/Local Public Health, County Units of Government, and Tribal Governments.

The Minnesota Community Health Worker Alliance invites proposals for the 2026 Rural Community Health Worker Conference to be held October 8th and 9th in Worthington, Minnesota. The theme for this year’s conference is "Hands On, Hearts In: Practicing the Skills That Power Rural CHW Work". This fully in-person conference will have approximately three Plenaries (1 hour), twelve breakout sessions (approximately 45 minutes) and up to 20 poster presentations. This presentation will explore how we make recommendations that will help patients prevent alcohol exposure during pregnancy. We will discuss screening for alcohol use in pregnancy and how to help support families to discontinue or minimize alcohol exposure during pregnancy. Participants will learn how to best support families affected by alcohol exposure by understanding the diagnosis of FASD (fetal alcohol syndrome disorders) and how to treat children and families with the diagnosis. Finally, we will discuss screening a case, including exposure and the support provided to the patient and her family. The session will emphasize nonjudgmental language and care coordination.

Recovery Project Coordinators play an important role in strengthening the supports and systems for people in recovery from substance use disorders. They serve at non-profit organizations and public agencies where they plan, coordinate, and execute projects to address urgent needs across recovery communities and the addiction continuum of care. They build the capacity of their service site to increase the reach, effectiveness, and/or efficiency of the services provided by the organization and the impact on the communities served. This position is an AmeriCorps service member position with the AmeriCorps program, Recovery Corps. This person will conduct their service at the Marshall, Minnesota, office of Southwest Health and Human Services.

Des Moines Valley Health and Human Services (DVHHS) currently has a full time opening for a Public Health Nurse or Registered Nurse. The Public Health Nurse or Registered Nurse provides skilled nursing care to assess physical, emotional and medical needs of families, carries out established plans of care, updates records, completes documentation of care, assists families in achieving goals, coordinates with school personnel and refers family health clients to community resources. The Health Educator identifies health education needs of the population of Rice County, and implements effective community-based health promotion strategies to address identified needs with a focus on policy, systems, and environmental change. Health promotion strategies may address one or more of the following areas: nutrition, physical activity, tobacco prevention, access to health care, mental health and wellness. The Health Educator engages in activities such as community health assessment, strategic planning, policy/ordinance development, community health education both in-person and written, health related social media postings, and grant implementation and evaluation. The Health Educator in this position will serve as the Rice County Public Health Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP) Coordinator.
Required qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Community Health, Health Education or a health-related field and one to three years of public health education, or equivalent. High school diploma or GED. • Certified as a Community Health Worker in MN and six months of experience working in a community health setting, OR 2 years of experience in community health work and currently enrolled in a CHW certificate program with a plan to complete within 6 months of hire. • Bilingual fluency, i.e., skilled ability to speak, read and write in English, plus verbally fluent in Spanish or Somali. • Valid driver's license, car insurance, and dependable car OR access to reliable transportation required to perform job duties.

The City of Bloomington Public Health Department is seeking a full-time Public Health Specialist to engage the community in promoting, protecting, and improving public health in Bloomington, Edina, and Richfield (BER) communities. The position strengthens community capacity and advances policy, systems, and environmental change through SHIP coalition collaboration, community health assessments, and evidence-based program implementation. The role will also lead sexual and reproductive health initiatives and partner with community organizations, schools, health systems and other decision-makers to drive sustainable improvements in sexual health knowledge, behaviors, outcomes, and policies across individuals and populations.
Required qualifications: -Two years of recent experience in health program development, assessment, and adaptation that meets best practices. -Two years of recent experience facilitating health programming to diverse learner groups in-person and/or virtually. -Experience in community-based reproductive health initiatives spanning education, clinical service delivery, grant implementation, and reporting, with a track record of developing trusted partnerships across sectors and within organizations. -Experience with health advocacy, community organizing, and/or professional mentoring, including participatory decision-making and consensus-building techniques. -Experience delivering inclusive, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive services to diverse communities, grounded in principles of health equity.
