The Mailbag provides a coordinated, non-duplicative source of information for local public health professionals, including announcements, events, tools, resources, and jobs. This free service is designed with the following audiences in mind: SCHSAC members, CHS administrators, public health directors, local public health staff, MDH staff, and friends of local public health in Minnesota. Applications Open for Advisory Council on ENRTF Community Grant Program

This new advisory council will provide strategic guidance and recommendations to inform the Department of Natural Resources' (DNR's) implementation of the recently authorized Environmental and Natural Resources Trust Fund (ENRTF) Community Grant Program. By reviewing grant policies and guidelines, program structures, and recipient and program/project eligibility criteria and guidelines, the council will promote transparency, accessibility, equity and effectiveness in the allocation of ENRTF Community Grant Program resources. The DNR commissioner will appoint at least 14 members, and no more than the statutory maximum of 19 members, to the advisory council. The application period is now open and applications must be submitted by 11:59 pm on April 10. ENRTF Community Grants are awarded for the following purposes (Minnesota Statutes, chapter 116X): -Helping adversely impacted communities respond to environmental degradation and related health concerns. -Educating and raising awareness related to stewardship of air, land, water, forests, fish, wildlife, and other natural resources. -Preserving or enhancing air, land, water, and other natural resources that otherwise may be substantially impaired or destroyed in any area of the state. -Maintaining and improving trails on existing state, regional, or local trails. No money allocated under this clause may be used to construct new trails or new trail segments. -Managing aquatic invasive species. Bridging care and knowledge: Preparing future CHW researchers for leadership

University of Minnesota’s Community Engagement to Advance Research and Community Health (CEARCH), Minnesota CHW Alliance, Hennepin County Research Institute, SoLaHmo Partnership for Health and Wellness, and MDH CHW Initiatives are partnering to grow the research role of CHWs in Minnesota by co-creating innovative training, resources, and career opportunities. Including CHWs in research and evaluation contributes to creating methods that align with community priorities. As part of this initiative, a new online learning module was launched on the MDH Learning Center: CHW 101: Introduction to Research. About the training: -Free, online, and self-paced (1.5–2 hours) -Includes real-life case studies, short videos of CHWs doing research, and interactive knowledge checks -Certificate of completion provided -CHWs who complete the course evaluation are eligible for a $50 gift card provided by CEARCH (first 200 participants) Training content -Research knowledge and skills -Ethics in research -Real-world CHW roles in research -Practical, community-grounded insights to organizational research efforts To access this course and other CHW learning modules, click the course link (https://minnesota.myabsorb.com/#/online-courses/6e3345a3-ec21-47dd-9dfd-b69e714e8cc0) and create a free MDH Learning Center account. New perinatal health data dashboard

The Innovations for Maternal Health Outcomes in Minnesota (I-MOM) program at MDH launched the first topics of a new online perinatal health data dashboard. This first release shares data from 2017-2023 that focuses on infant outcomes and care delivery, such as fetal and infant death, preterm births, and method of delivery. For each topic included in the dashboard, there is an overview page with key data highlighted, as well as an interactive page where users can look at the outcomes geographically and by additional demographic and program use factors such as maternal age, maternal race/ethnicity, and Medicaid paid deliveries. The dashboard was created to focus on infant or maternal outcomes or care delivery, and the data is intended to help inform partners and programs as they work with their communities to provide perinatal health services. Essential Practices for Building Lasting Research Partnerships

When academic researchers and community organizations team up, differing perspectives and expectations naturally emerge. The Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) developed seven essential partnership practices for healthier research relationships, including conflict resolution, shared decision-making, power sharing, resource sharing, mutual benefit, trust-building, and reflection.

Request for Reviewers - Minnesota Innovations in Perinatal Health

MDH seeks reviewers to participate in a community review process for the Minnesota Innovations in Perinatal Health grant. This RFP is focused on improving perinatal health outcomes for communities of color, American Indian communities, and rural communities. Especially seeking reviewers who: • Identify as a person of color and/or American Indian  • Reside in Greater Minnesota • Have lived experience in perinatal health inequities  • Have a background in perinatal health  • Have lived experience/or work with pregnant and postpartum women/birthing people * Reviewers will be required to identify any conflicts of interest and will not review a proposal if they have a direct relationship with the applicant. Number of reviewers selected is contingent on the number of applications received.   Reviewers will be asked to:   • Attend a one-hour virtual reviewer orientation session, either on April 1 or April 2 from noon - 1 p.m. • Review and score assigned applications in the Foundant grants management system   • Attend a four-hour virtual community review team meeting (either on April 15 or 16) *Reviewers are expected to have reliable internet access to participate in the meetings.   Reviewers can be compensated for their time spent reading and scoring applications, as well as time spent in the review meetings. Student Stipend: Call for Applications

The Region V Public Health Training Center (RVPHTC) works to build capacity among the current and future public health workforce in the Great Lakes region (IL, IN, MI, MN, OH, WI) through training, continuing education, and student development. Funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), we are able to provide stipends to students within Region V states to complete experiential learning through field placements and collaborative projects involving faculty and practice partners. As a HRSA-funded center, these placements and projects must be in alignment with HRSA strategic priorities and federal executive orders. Our Call for Applications is now open until April 14 (11:59 PM ET). It is our priority to engage students from a range of experiences and backgrounds. We strongly encourage students from rural areas or medically underserved populations to apply. Students selected will receive a $3,500 stipend and have access to professional development opportunities. Student Eligibility: Full- or part-time students that come from any academic institution in the region Undergraduate (junior/senior), graduate, and doctoral students pursuing a degree in public health Tribal Community College students enrolled in a health professions degree program (e.g., allied health, community health worker) are eligible U.S. citizens, non-citizen U.S. nationals, or foreign nationals holding a visa permitting permanent residence in the United States.

This live webinar is part 3 of a 4-part series on rural health communications. The third and fourth sessions will focus on communications engagement with the media. Session #3 will provide an introduction to key strategies, and session #4 will provide an opportunity for participants to practice new skills.
