The Mailbag provides a coordinated, non-duplicative source of information for local public health professionals, including announcements, events, tools, resources, and jobs. This free service is designed with the following audiences in mind: SCHSAC members, CHS administrators, public health directors, local public health staff, MDH staff, and friends of local public health in Minnesota. Cultural Toolkits for African American, Somali, and Ukrainian cultures

Home visitors may find the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) cultural toolkits helpful as they provide basic information about the African American, Somali, and Ukrainian cultures. Home visitors may specifically benefit from the sections on breastfeeding, formula feeding, starting solids, and parenting. These toolkits are still a work in progress and additional toolkits will be added as they become available.

Resource and Webinar: Strengthening Partnerships between Public Health and Community-Based Organizations

Developed by the CDC Foundation in collaboration with HIP, this new report draws upon the experiences of over 144 health department and CBO leaders to make recommendations for how to strengthen partnerships between health departments and community-based organizations. New report on Minnesota’s school nurse workforce

The MDH school health data and reports webpage has new information and data on the Minnesota school nurse workforce which was collected in 2022. The COVID-19 pandemic impacted the health and wellbeing of students, families, school nurses, and educators which in turn has impacted school nurses and school health services staff. Through emails, calls, and website scans, the Minnesota Departments of Health and Education and partners set about collecting school nurse and health service staffing data from 94% of public school districts and charter school in Minnesota.  Read the complete Minnesota School Nurse Workforce: A 2022 Snapshot report.

Resource: Heat & Health Tracker

This interactive map shows current, historical, and projected heat exposure data and associated health impacts. It offers regional, state, and county comparisons. It also includes the Heat and Health Index offering data on historical burden, heat sensitivity for chronic conditions, sociodemographic, natural and built environment characteristics at the county level.

In 2024, The Healthy Minnesota Partnership is developing the next statewide health improvement framework, which is a multi-year action plan to address prioritized issues elevated in the recently released statewide health assessment. This RWJF Systems for Action study evaluates the effectiveness of an aligned service delivery and financing model designed to improve maternal and infant health by helping Medicaid-eligible persons receive access to healthy foods during pregnancy. The Nourishing Beginnings program uses integrated data, screening and referral systems combined with community health worker support to link people in need with healthy food delivery from a local food bank or with direct cash assistance for food purchases.

Law Clerk (Consumer- Social Media/Wellbeing Report) - Fall 2024, Minnesota Office of Attorney General (closes 7/10)

This position focuses on assisting Assistant Attorneys General with researching and drafting a second report to the Legislature - due in February 2025 - about the effects of new and emerging technologies on the well-being of Minnesotans.  This second report will follow up on the Office’s first report released in February 2024, which made six policy recommendations to the Legislature and resulted in the enactment of the Prohibiting Social Media Manipulation Act, 2024 Minn. Laws, chapter 114, article 3, sections 63-67 during the last legislative session.  Specifically, the second report will update the existing legislative landscape, build on the research of the last report, and update policy recommendations to the Legislature for additional steps Minnesota can take to protect the public from the negative effects associated with new and emerging technologies, including social media.

Health Promotion Specialist, Dakota County Public Health (closes 7/12)

OAM is hiring a registered dietitian to provide nutrition counseling and education to our clients living with life-threatening illnesses. This full-time, salaried position works closely with our nutrition and client services departments and contributes to the fulfillment of Open Arms’ mission by providing evidence-based nutrition information and medical nutrition therapy to clients with varying health needs.
