Learn how to properly install car seats & booster seats and educate caregivers in your community! Consider becoming a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST). CPSTs play an important role in preventing injuries by helping families through education & hands-on support. Who should attend: Public health staff, healthcare providers, EMS/fire/law enforcement, child care providers, social workers, and anyone working with children and families. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive national certification. The course provides a strong foundation, but becoming confident and well-versed as a CPST takes ongoing practice and experience. Technicians build their skills over time by regularly attending checkup events, working directly with caregivers, & staying up to date on evolving best practices, laws, & technology. Organizations in Minnesota are invited to apply for a $25,000 opportunity to strengthen community and clinical linkages (CCLs) for type 2 diabetes prevention and management. This year long project, led by Mathematica in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Health, will support programs serving African American, American Indian, and rural communities. Selected organizations will implement an enhancement or strategy to improve how CCLs can improve health by addressing health-related social needs like access to healthcare, healthy foods, and transportation. The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) seeks applications for the Grant to Prevent Sleep-Related Infant Deaths in Minnesota’s American Indian and Black/African American Populations. The purpose of the grant is to fund one organization to create, manage, and support Community Action Teams to implement culturally appropriate, data driven solutions to reduce sudden unexpected infant deaths in Minnesota’s American Indian and Black/African American populations. Funding is currently available for $134,000 from July 15, 2026, to September 29, 2027. Completed applications are due by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 22. MDH will host an RFP information session from noon - 1 p.m. on Monday, April 27. All prospective applicants are encouraged to attend the session to learn about the RFP and application process. Vaccinations in Pregnancy, Childhood, and Native Communities This session will focus on the critical role vaccines have during pregnancy and early childhood in preventing serious illness and protecting long-term health. Participants will review key vaccine recommendations, learn how maternal immunization protects both parent and infant, and explore the impact of routine childhood vaccines on preventing severe disease. Special attention will be given to vaccine-preventable diseases in Native American populations. The MNPQC Perinatal Education ECHO Series is a free, virtual learning opportunity designed for those passionate about improving care for perinatal health conditions. This session will focus on Maternal Mortality Review Committees (MMRCs) and the recent release of the Minnesota MMRC Report from 2017-2021. Maternal Mortality Review Committees (MMRCs) are considered the gold standard for maternal mortality surveillance because they use a multidisciplinary review process, draw on multiple data sources, and assess pregnancy-relatedness, preventability, and contributing factors. This presentation summarizes findings from Minnesota’s Maternal Mortality Review Committee Five-Year Report (2017–2021). It focuses on the top three causes of pregnancy-related deaths and highlights strategies to reduce preventable maternal deaths.

24-Hour Emergency Response Operations – $575 8am - 4pm This course consists of three days of lectures, discussions, classroom demonstrations, small group exercises, and hands-on training. This Operations Level course is designed to provide training required by OSHA 1910.120 to respond to hazardous substance releases with the purpose of protecting persons, property, and the environment from the effects of the release and to contain the release. Emphasis will be placed on responding in a defensive manner without actually trying to stop the release. Topics include: Relevant state and federal regulations, health hazard recognition, hazard and risk assessment, respiratory protection, selection and use of personal protective equipment, decontamination, control and containment of spills, emergency response plans, termination procedures, and the incident command system.

40-Hour Emergency Response Technician – $1,000 8 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday The 40-hour Emergency Response Technician course includes the 24-hour operations level training, plus 16 additional hours of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on experience. Members are placed at nonprofit organizations and public agencies to plan, coordinate, and implement projects that strengthen supports and systems for people in recovery from substance use disorders. In these roles, members expand service capacity, improve program reach and effectiveness, and collaborate with community partners across the addiction of continuum of care. WIC Coordinator administers, coordinates and supervises the policies, procedures and activities in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) to provide food, nutrition counseling and access to health services to low-income women, infants and children and ensure compliance with federal, state and local rules and regulations. The RN, Public Health Nurse or Care Coordinator/Case Manager will be a part of the Long Team Care team and serve as a care coordinator for persons age 65 and above who reside in Steele County. Persons served are eligible for Medical Assistance through one of the health plans in Steele County. The focus with the position is the health and safety of persons served. Staff will work with clients to assess needs, develop plans that reflect the individual’s goals and assist in the acquisition of services and supplies needed to meet individual goals. This position reports to the Public Health Supervisor of the Disease Prevention and Control team and will support Disease Prevention and Control activities delegated by the Supervisor including but not limited to provide Public Health Nursing services for clients in the Refugee Health Program, case management for Perinatal Hepatitis B clients and Latent Tuberculosis clients, and assist with Active Tuberculosis cases and contact investigations.
