The Mailbag, as it is commonly called, is a weekly bulletin of information submitted by and for local public health in Minnesota. The Mailbag provides a coordinated, non-duplicative source of information for local public health professionals, including announcements, events, tools, resources, and jobs. This free service is designed with the following audiences in mind: SCHSAC members, CHS administrators, public health directors, local public health staff, MDH staff, and friends of local public health in Minnesota. Please share this survey with any of your colleagues involved in the immunization process at your facility If you haven't already, take a moment to complete this brief MDH Immunization Resources Survey on your experience and use of the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) immunization website and resources. We want to know: • Do providers use the MDH website and resources? • Are they easy to find and use? • What do you find the most helpful and useful? All health care staff that are part of the immunization process are encouraged to take the survey! This includes staff that schedule appointments, discuss, recommend, and or administer vaccines with patients, residents, or employees. Take your advocacy skills to the next level: Apply to the Climate & Health Equity Leaders Fellowship

Health Professionals for a Healthy Climate is accepting applications from early-, mid-, and late-career public health professionals to join the 2026 Climate & Health Equity Leaders (CHEL) Fellowship. The CHEL Fellowship is a 5-month skill-building program (Jan. – Jun. 2026) for working or retired health professionals seeking to gain tangible experience in advocacy that promotes a healthy, equitable climate for all Minnesotans. By contributing just 4-6 hours per month, you'll receive monthly learning sessions, legislative advocacy opportunities, peer and community connections, and self-care resources to sustain advocacy throughout your career. You’ll also gain skills for individual and community action, legislative advocacy, systems change, and supporting community-led efforts related to environmental justice and health equity. Call for artists: creative action for clean drinking water — Chatfield, Minnesota

Calling all artists - we need your creativity to help Chatfield, Minnesota protect clean drinking water. The Source Water Protection Collaborative, facilitated by Environmental Initiative, invites applications for a 10-month artist residency focused on community engagement and drinking water protection in Chatfield, Minnesota. This residency seeks an artist or artist team skilled in using creative approaches to deepen community connection and inspire collective action on complex public issues. The selected artist(s) will collaborate with Chatfield residents, local leaders, and water professionals to co-design and implement a creative project that strengthens understanding, trust, and shared responsibility for local drinking water. We welcome applications from artists of all disciplines and career stages. Ideal applicants are curious, community-minded, and experienced in participatory or place-based work. Whether through visual art, performance, storytelling, or other mediums, the artist(s) will help surface new ways for people to connect with water, land, and one another. Details: Timeline: March–December 2026 (part-time, approx. 15–20 hours/week). Compensation: $45,000 stipend + $15,000 project budget. Minnesota Newsletter: Sustained Investment in Public Health Builds a Strong Foundation

Every few months, leaders from the Local Public Health Association of Minnesota (LPHA), the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), and the State Community Health Services Advisory Committee SCHSAC share news about the work they're shepherding to transform Minnesota's public health system. This past month, outgoing LPHA chair Amy Westbrook (St. Louis County) shared her thoughts on public health in Minnesota, we connected a strong foundation to community-specific priorities, and local public health agencies shared examples of their work using the FPHR Grant. Alzheimer's Awareness Grant RFP

Minnesota Department of Health’s (MDH) Aging and Healthy Communities Unit is requesting applications for the Alzheimer's Awareness Grant. The purpose of this funding is to design and make publicly available materials that: Promote the benefits of early detection and the importance of discussing cognition with a health care provider. Outlines the benefits of cognitive testing, the early warning signs of cognitive impairment, and the difference between normal aging and dementia. Provides awareness of Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD). Organizations who engage in ADRD work should apply. Up to four organizations will be awarded for a 15-month grant period up to $160,000, estimated $40,000 per grantee. The MDH Aging and Healthy Communities Unit will host a one-hour informational session on Dec. 11, 2025. While not required, applicants are encouraged to attend. Connect families with one of the nation’s leading Child Tax Credits

Families across Minnesota may qualify for the Minnesota Child Tax Credit, up to $1,750 per qualifying child, with no limit on the number of children claimed. If someone qualifies for the credit, they must file a tax return. This is a refundable credit, meaning families can receive a refund even if they don’t owe any tax. We need your help to raise awareness about this important tax benefit. The Minnesota Department of Revenue has created ready-to-use promotional materials to help partners share accurate and relevant information. These multicultural resources include videos, flyers, newsletter blurbs, and social media posts. Please consider playing videos in waiting rooms, including flyers with intake forms, sharing flyers at information tables, featuring blurbs in newsletters, posting content on social media, and more. The most effective times to share these messages are the first two weeks of tax season, around Presidents' Day, and two weeks before the end of tax season. Together, we can help ensure families know about this important tax credit and file their taxes if they qualify. Thank you!
