Entrepreneurship Training Program for First-Time Entrepreneurs

Foresight Science & Technology is excited to continue working alongside the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) and the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) to provide training and resources for the Innovator to Entrepreneur Program (ITEP). Launched in 2023 this program benefits inventors developing technically sound, innovative products in the areas of NIAID and NHLBI interests but having little to no experience in turning their inventions into a business. ITEP will assist these aspiring entrepreneurs by providing them with cohort-based comprehensive training covering the key elements of technology commercialization. This training will be provided at no cost to all participants.

To be eligible for the program, participants must meet the following criteria:

·       Have little to no previous experience in entrepreneurship

·       Have not previously received an NIH SBIR/STTR award

·       Develop products that are within the scope of NIAID and NHLBI areas of interest

Starting February 2026, program participants will attend weekly live training webinars presented by Foresight. The curriculum will cover the key elements of company launch, business strategy development, intellectual property protection, market research, customer discovery and startup financing.

The weekly webinars will be combined with one-on-one training with Foresight mentors. One-on-one training will be tailored to the needs of specific program participants. The goal of this training is to prepare participants for virtual Final Presentation- a pitch of a mock business plan for the technology within the area of NIAID/NHLBI interests. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be equipped with the necessary knowledge, tools, and resources to launch and run a company and apply for diluted and non-diluted funding.

This program will begin accepting applications for participation on December 18, 2025, at 12pm E.T. Apply online to be part of the Winter 2026 cohort of ITEP participants. Space is limited and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Be sure to subscribe to the NIAID email list and NHLBI Newsletter to receive up-to-date information about ITEP and other opportunities!
