The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is currently conducting a public interest review under Minnesota’s Hospital Bed Moratorium law of a plan from Regions Hospital to add 85 licensed beds at their acute care facility in Saint Paul. This expansion would increase inpatient bed capacity for general medicine, surgery, cardiology, orthopedics, trauma, neurology, and intensive care services, as well as other acute care services between 2026 and 2033.
MDH is seeking public feedback on this proposal. Written statements or comments can be submitted electronically to healt...@state.mn.us. All written statements or comments will be public information and posted to the MDH website.
About the Public Interest Review Process: Under Minnesota Statutes, chapter 144.552, an entity seeking an exception to the Hospital Bed Moratorium -- to increase its number of licensed beds or to obtain a new hospital license -- must submit a plan to MDH for review. MDH is required to review the plan and issue a finding within 150 days on whether the plan is in the public interest.
