After decades of mystery, scientists have uncovered how the NIAID-supported delta inulin vaccine adjuvant works, lowering the hurdle to regulatory approval for vaccine candidates that contain it. Adjuvants are substances formulated as part of a vaccine to boost immune responses and enhance vaccine effectiveness. NIAID has funded the discovery and development of the delta inulin adjuvant for many years, currently through a tuberculosis vaccine adjuvant research program.
