The Mailbag provides a coordinated, non-duplicative source of information for local public health professionals, including announcements, events, tools, resources, and jobs. This free service is designed with the following audiences in mind: SCHSAC members, CHS administrators, public health directors, local public health staff, MDH staff, and friends of local public health in Minnesota. Breakout Session Request for Proposals is Now Open for the Partners in Public Health Conference

The Minnesota Department of Health and the Local Public Health Association are looking for breakout session presentations for the Partners in Public Health Conference this fall. The sessions should advance the knowledge, skills, and abilities of public health workers across Minnesota. Proposals must be submitted by August 1 and can be submitted using this form: https://forms.office.com/g/viCgUTWAgE. Please review the presentation guidelines in the form before submitting your proposal. The conference is Nov. 13-15 in Breezy Point, MN. It will explore new approaches for transforming Minnesota’s public health system and provide new learning and networking opportunities for public health workers. Free CME Opportunity: Motivational Interviewing for Vaccine Hesitancy

North Dakota State University Center for Immunization Research and Education (NDSU CIRE) is excited to offer a free, four-part online video training module designed to boost clinicians’ confidence addressing vaccine hesitancy in the medical encounter. Participants will: Understand the foundations of motivational interviewing (MI), including the spirit of MI and when it would be appropriate to utilize this approach with patients. Observe MI-consistent communication strategies in practice, including elicit-provide-elicit (EPE), scaling questions, and reflection and summarization. Develop the ability to confidently address and resolve patient concerns regarding vaccinations through effective communication and evidence-based information. The training module is free and available to everyone. Upon completion of all four videos and corresponding quizzes, participants are eligible to claim 1 free continuing education credit. This activity has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ through the Minnesota Medical Association.

Cultural Toolkits for African American, Somali, and Ukrainian cultures

Home visitors may find the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) cultural toolkits helpful as they provide basic information about the African American, Somali, and Ukrainian cultures. Home visitors may specifically benefit from the sections on breastfeeding, formula feeding, starting solids, and parenting. These toolkits are still a work in progress and additional toolkits will be added as they become available.

Resource and Webinar: Strengthening Partnerships between Public Health and Community-Based Organizations

Developed by the CDC Foundation in collaboration with HIP, this new report draws upon the experiences of over 144 health department and CBO leaders to make recommendations for how to strengthen partnerships between health departments and community-based organizations. 7/30: C&TC Hearing and Vision Advanced Screening Skills for Nurses (St. Paul)

Includes how to do basic hearing and vision screening. In addition, the hearing portion includes in-depth ear anatomy and physiology, risk assessment/hearing history, definitions of conductive and sensorineural hearing loss, otoscopy, tympanometry, and otoacoustic emissions screening (OAE). The vision portion includes a review of myopia, hyperopia, and amblyopia, performing pupillary light, and red reflex procedures. This training will include time to practice skills learned. Identifies, promotes and maintains the health of the public by providing direct nursing care and health education in office, home, or community settings. Serves a culturally diverse population. Provides services at the individual, family and population-based level. Serves as agency Disease Prevention and Control Coordinator. The Hennepin County Public Health Clinic is looking to hire a Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. This position with the Red Door Clinic will primarily provide sexual health care services including comprehensive HIV/sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and treatment services, family planning, and HIV prevention services within a multidisciplinary team of medical providers. This position will also cross-train to our tuberculosis (TB) care and treatment, refugee health screening, and suboxone/harm reduction programs, such as Medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD), as warranted by clinic volume and utilization.
