We are still on track for a significant winter storm which begins tonight. Light snow will develop in Northwest Montana tonight as an arctic front crosses the divide. Winds in some areas such as the Badrock and Hellgate Canyons will see sustained winds over 20 mph once the front moves in. This front combined with another surge of Pacific moisture is an ideal snow making scenario. An intense snow band will develop near the I-90 corridor. Heavy snow up to a foot and whiteout conditions are likely under this snow band. If you are within 50 miles of I-90 between Whitehall and Lookout Pass, prepare to receive heavy snow.
Cold air is coming behind this front too. Temperatures will fall to the upper 10 and 20s for highs by Sunday and lows dropping to the single digits above and below zero by early next week. The colder temperatures !
will aid in producing higher snow totals from this storm.
