I finally found a singing SWAINSON'S THRUSH at New Michigan State Forest.
The bird was in a northern hardwood/hemlock forest on CCC truck road west of the intersection of CCC truck rd and north rd.  The bird was pretty close for a bit and I got a nice recording of its beautiful song.

which has the recording. There is also a hermit thrush singing in the background.

This species is really diminishing in Chenango Co with all the logging that is going on up there especially in New Michigan State Forest. If the logging continues, I fear this unique species will be gone from one of its stronghold outside of the Catskills and Adirondacks that has been known since at least the 1970s (Bull's NY state birds book). The NYSDEC is doing their forestry management practices so it is not to blame them. Some of the conifer forest up there is dying as it has matured or has had issues with the very wet past few summers. Anyway, I hope this species holds on up there.
