Sub-Distribution of Product Update:

We are running a little behind on inviting partners to sign the addendum. Please stay tuned, and we will be sending out those invites shortly.

Last week’s Sub-Distribution of Product Update:

Just a quick reminder! If your program shares excess product with another FBST partner, we need a signed Sub-Distribution Addendum on file by the deadline listed below.

This process helps ensure we continue to meet Feeding America’s national standards and can keep food flowing to the communities that count on us.

If you’re unsure how to proceed or need support, we’re just a call or click away.

  • Complete our Sub-Distribution of Product Form
  • An invitation to collaborate and sign the new Addendum with all eligible receiving partners will be sent via email once your Sub-Distribution of Product form is processed.
  • Ensure food is transported safely per our standards

For more information, here is the video recording from last week’s webinar. Sub-Distribution of Product Webinar Video

    Happy 2026 folks!

    🔧FBST Freezer Shutdown

Starting Friday, February 6, the FBST freezer will be shut down for two weeks to make needed repairs. Here’s some additional information:

    • The FBST will use a trailer to keep a limited supply of frozen foods available for those two weeks. We will carry the normal amount of top frozen foods: ground beef, chicken, and frozen vegetables
    • For a few weeks leading up to Feb. 6, agencies will see fewer frozen items on the shopping list
    • After the freezer is back up, it will take time to replenish the FBST's normal freezer shopping list
    • The shutdown will not impact the supply of cooler, shelf-stable foods, or 2026 Spring holiday hams
    • You may wish to increase your agency's frozen orders before the shutdown. If so, please do the following:
      • Take into account your agency's freezer space when ordering
      • Include notes in the order comments section to let the Food Bank know that your order is bigger than a normal order and that you have accounted for your space
    • If there are changes to the Freezer Shutdown timeline, the Food Bank will provide regular updates in advance to help with your order planning

🕒 Changes to SNAP “Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWDs)”

As of March 1, 2026, new federal SNAP regulations require “Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents” (ABAWDs) to meet new rules in order to receive SNAP benefits.

ABAWDs are defined as individuals that are between 18 and 64 years old and do not live with a child under age 14. The NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance's SNAP website explains ABAWD work rules, time limits, how to meet work rules, and offers several resources.

🔜 With these rule changes, the Food Bank expects to see an increase in SNAP participants who are seeking volunteer opportunities at food pantries. In anticipation of this, the Food Bank is offering:

    1. A toolkit for partners who plan to accept SNAP participants as volunteers to help you through the process
    2. Trauma Informed Care Training to ensure volunteers are equipped to accept additional volunteers who are currently experiencing food insecurity

Stay tuned for these resources from FBST!

🤲 Meanwhile, check out these resources from NYS OTDA to help your clients navigate these changes:

Keep your SNAP Benefits Fact Sheet: This flyer helps SNAP recipients and organizations that work with them. It raises awareness and promotes compliance with ABAWD work rules.

You’re an ABAWD. Now what?: This flyer helps SNAP recipients understand what they need to do to keep their SNAP benefits. It tells them how to claim an exemption and how to meet the work rules.

    👉 Tompkins County Specific Resource:

The Tompkins County Opportunity Finder was created to help Tompkins residents find volunteer, training or educational opportunities that count toward the federally mandated SNAP ABAWD work requirement.  We hope to see similar resources in additional counties soon.
