We are halfway there!
As we approach the 15th Anniversary of the Olmstead decision and the guaranteed right to live in the community, and thanks to your hard work and dedication, the New York State
Assembly just went a long way to making Olmstead more of a reality than ever before by passing legislation sponsored by Assemblywoman Deborah Glick that would create an Advanced Home Health
Aide and allow for full implementation of Community First Choice!!
But, the Senate is refusing to even vote on the bill!
As you may have seen, one Senator told the political news site Capitol New York that he doesn't want "to go near" the bill because it looks like "...it was some kind of product of the Working Families Convention." The Senate Majority is mad at 1199 and Working Families, and now they are saying they oppose a bill that is very similar to the one they almost passed as a part of their final budget negotiations and which would help tens of thousands of people with
disabilities stay in the community and live a better life.
Just because they don't like one of the over 30 groups supporting the
bill!
This is unacceptable.
The Senate has announced it will be in Session Friday.
We have one more chance to make our voice heard.
They are going into Session at 10 am, and we don't know how long they will be there.
It is critical you CALL NOW.

I am a constituent. I vote. I want the Senate to put my life and the lives of tens of thousands of New Yorkers with disabilities
