The Park Slope Civic Council will hold a Livable
Streets Community Workshop on Sunday, March 22nd, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 Noon at
Congregation Beth Elohim, 8th Avenue
at Garfield Place. This workshop is an opportunity for the
Civic Council and the community to look at how our streets can
be made truly livable, and how much progress has been made since
the Civic Council’s last Livable Streets workshop in 2009. The
hope is that this discussion will generate concrete proposals
that can be taken to elected officials, government agencies, and
the private sector to be discussed, refined, and realized. This
workshop will also help define the role the Civic Council will
play in the foreseeable future regarding livable streets. This
workshop will focus on four areas as they affect the streetscape
in our community: Aging in Place (discussion leader Judy
Willig, Executive Director of Heights and Hills), Independence
of the Disabled (discussion leader Joan Peters, Executive
Director of Brooklyn Center for Independence of the Disabled,
Public Art (discussion leader Abby Subak, Director of Arts
Gowanus), and the Streets/Sidewalks/Curbsides/Streetscape
(discussion leader Adam White, longtime safe streets activist
and Principal in the Law Office of Vaccaro and White). The
moderator will be Ben Fried, Editor-in-Chief of Streetsblog.
Following the workshop, the Civic Council will issue a report
of the proposals and discussions from the workshop that will
serve as the blueprint for further action.
