Subject: How YOU can make a difference

Dear Friend,
A lot’s been going on. And with continuing developments on the state budget in Albany, it's more important than ever we fight for results to make a difference right here in the district.
My seventh annual Community Convention is on Sunday, April 12, 2-5 p.m. at LES Prep High School (145 Stanton St b/w Norfolk and Suffolk). It's a great opportunity to make your voice heard on the issues that matter and to help drive priorities in the district and Albany. In fact, we're still getting results on issues that were raised last year.
At last year's convention you asked us to:
  • ...fortify and protect Lower Manhattan from extreme weather. And we got the City to deliver! We helped secure nearly $15 million from the City and State to provide flood protection and resiliency planning at Manhattan’s southern tip from Montgomery Street to Battery Park. We'll continue this push because our neighborhoods cannot be left vulnerable.
  • ...push for more transportation options, especially along the waterfront. And there is very -- or ferry -- good news! We were able to successfully secure new ferry service with the City -- including stops at Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn and the Grand Street area on the Lower East Side -- and I look forward to working with the community as planning moves forward.
  • ...preserve affordable housing. And we got victories for tenants! Partnering with tenants, advocates and colleagues, we organized to lay the foundation for investigations into landlords with a history of egregious tenant complaints, and I recently joined Attorney General Schneiderman, Mayor de Blasio, and DHCR Commissioner Towns to announce new cooperation between the City and State to protect tenants.
Be part of the push to make a difference -- as this shows, everyday community members are a big part of helping us change our neighborhoods for the better.
RSVP now for this year's Community Convention on Sunday, April 12 at LES Prep High School on the Lower East Side (145 Stanton, between Norfolk and Suffolk) from 2-5 p.m. You can RSVP here or by calling my office at 212-298-5565
I look forward to seeing you there!
Thanks,
Daniel
