All,

First of all, I just want to thank everyone who sent in helpful
suggestions concerning the insurance issues as well as those that just
offered support. It is always appreciated.

Sorry for another update so soon, but many people have inquired about
the snowball fight over the last 24 hours (and I spent plenty of time
last night replying) so I though a quick follow-up was in order. All
of the new folks have hopefully been added to this distribution list.

To repeat, there is NO SNOWBALL FIGHT scheduled for tomorrow (at least
not the world record attempt I am planning). It is disappointing,
especially considering it just started snowing (finally), but no one is
probably as disappointed as me. The details of the insurance issues
can be found in Thursday's update (#5). As several people have pointed
out, it is sad that there must be so much red tape to cut through to
hold a good old-fashioned snowball fight, but alas, that is today's
reality. This event was always envisioned to be a safe and fun
neighborhood event, open to anyone who wanted to participate. There
will be children, older folks, etc. and if the event is not thoroughly
planned properly through the right channels it could get very ugly very
fast. And that is not something I wish to be a part of.

It is unfortunate that the planning has taken more time and energy than
I originally thought, but efforts still continue to get this thing to
happen. The fact that all of the pieces are not in place yet probably
means that today's storm will dump four feet of perfect packing snow.
My only solace is that based on the latest weather report, the
conditions at mid-afternoon tomorrow sound as if they would only
support life for emperor penguins. And based on the lines at the
supermarket and video store an hour ago, it doesn't seem like many
people are planning on leaving the house tomorrow.

So if we do get a good snowfall I hope everyone enjoys it in their own
way. And it would be a good opportunity to practice your packing
skills and aim. If it is not unbearably brutal tomorrow I will
probably go the field in Prospect Park where the world's largest
snowball fight will one day take place, and as a tribute hold the
world's smallest snowball fight. This will consist of me throwing a
snowball in the air, running underneath it, and letting it hit me in
the face. After which I will promptly sue myself. If I can convince
one of my friends to join me to take pictures, I'll post them with the
next update.

That's it for now. Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the weekend, and
as always I will keep the group updated on developments. Thanks again
to everyone for the suggestions and support.

Take care.

Jon
