Hey there Skillsharers!

Just wanted to let you know our final deadline for class submissions is THIS Sunday, August 15th! No previous experience needed to teach--just an enthusiasm and willingness to share your skill/hobby/passion for an hour on Saturday, October 9th at the Brooklyn Community Arts & Media High School in Bed-Stuy. Email brooklyns...@gmail.com for a class proposal form if interested!

We are also pleased to release the 2nd installment of our Mini Skillz videos to get you excited for the 2010 Brooklyn Skillshare! Isa Rodrigues, from the Brooklyn Textile Arts Center, will be teaching “How to dye fabric from your grocery bag”

In this class, students will learn and experiment with dyeing fabric and yarn with natural dyes. The focus will be on the use of vegetables, plants, flowers and spices that can be easily found in any kitchen, farmer's market or communal garden, but still provide beautiful colors! Also, we'll give a brief introduction to other historical natural dyes and the reasons that make them so special. Students will also be introduced and experiment with some resist-dyeing techniques.

Other confirmed classes for this year include: home canning, crocheting, screenprinting with fabrics, worm composting, scrapbooking, homemade ice cream, pickling, improv & sketch comedy, homeopathic body care, block printing, glass etching, felting, creating your own website, wild edible plants, and how to make reusable bags!

We also have a Kickstarter campaign going on now through October 1st! Click on over to see what awesome goodies you can receive in exchange for backing our project!

Besides that, we are toiling away to make this year as amazing as last! We are still in need of breakfast donations (coffee + bagels ideally) if anyone knows of any local vendors that would be willing to help us out.

2 months and counting! See you at the Skillshare!

Much love,

Team BKSS

P.S. Stay tuned for a newly redesigned website featuring an amazing new logo designed by designer extraordinaire, Erica Gorochow!

Mission Statement: Education is a right, not a commodity. We are all students and teachers, and we believe that everyone has something to teach and to learn from each other. The Brooklyn Skillshare is a communal, hands-on, learning experience that aims to serve as a jumping-off point in the construction of an autonomous, nonexclusive, reciprocal learning community.
